I would like to get a legally docked Boxer puppy, does anyone know of any reputable breeders in Ireland.

I think there are a lot of puppy farmers in Ireland so do your research thoroughly.

If you get a docked pup then you won't be able to show it in this country and I think that by looking for a docked pup you will exclude a huge amount of very good, experienced breeders with excellent, health tested pups.  This may be something to consider when looking for your pup :-)
Another day, another lesson learned :-)

I know we all have our own views and reasons, but I think its sad that you want to buy a puppy thats been mutilated for no good reason, when there are some lovely well reared health tested boxer pups out there with super waggly tails.
Can I just ask genuinly why you want a pup thats had  its tail chopped off?  I am not trying to be offensive I am really trying to understand a good reason why.

If you want a short-tailed boxer, several breeders are now breeding naturally short-tailed (bobtail) boxers.  Do a search and you will find some.  They are born with short tails of varying length - mostly approx. the correct size.  The ratio of bobtail and long tailed pups in a litter is about 50:50.

Personally i think that tail docking is NOT mutilation, and to say the tails are chopped off is a hysterical reaction on your part. Go to the Boxer breed council and watch the video of puppies being docked, It is hardly mutilation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You are entitled to your opinion but if i want a legally docked Boxer it is my choice and NOT yours!

Have to agree with the enquirer on this one I thought the terminology;

"thats been mutilated for no good reason" and  had  its tail chopped off? by Bev was a tad OTT.
Yes it has been banned now in most parts and of course it is worth given advise as to selecting suitable breeders but the choice is with the buyer.

I too personally wouldn't want it with the tail undocked but for me now it would mean probably not buying another.

Pja is correct about the bobtails but they are often much more expensive than a non-bobtail.

If you choose to opt for a docked pup then make sure all the relevant health tests have been carried out etc etc and as I stated previously if you were looking for a pup to show then you would not be able to at paying shows (I think!) in this country.

I have a boxer who is docked but I was not bothered either way - breeding for a sound temperament with a good type (yes I know he is white but I mean good type in all the other ways lol) and all the health tests were top of my list when looking for a pup.

Edit: Blue got there before me!

Not if you go to the right breeder, bobtails shouldn't be any more expensive than a normal tailed version...
;-) Although I am well aware of those that have charged £200-600 more than the tailed litter siblings were sold for :-(

There are three English Boxer breeders that show that now reside in Eire that I'm aware of (and have sent the poster the kennel affix names).

I own all three tail types, docked, long and bob.
Can honestly say you get used to the long tail...even though some of my friends can't bear it.
But then again I did grow up with a tailed breed (GSD) maybe that's why? :-)

Yes sorry that's what I meant but didn't put it across very well :-)

I also agree that wording is OTT.  I always said that I would never have a Spanish with a tail, but more than likely I'm keeping my girl which I bred who has a tail !  Her temperament, looks, etc far outweigh the missing stump that I prefer on my breed.  Getting to quite like the tail which is always waving away at me now even though it does make me want me to put a little flag on it!

I dread to think the havoc of a boxer with a tail :-D    It isn't my breed that I show or breed so I don't have to think long term I guess like so many others.  I like their little waggy stumps :-D

We have 6 Boxers at the moment the youngest at 11 months having a tail and it really does add to her personality. I don't agree with the bobtail option, in my opinion it is a cross breed,, a cross between a Corgie and a Boxer and I wouldn't really fancy the Corgie temperament in a dog the size or as bouncy as some of my Boxers, but that is my opinion and my preference. Tails won't put me off the breed it is just something else that we will get used to over time.

I have heard about this bias thinking about temperament issues but I can honestly say
the ones that I've known have had super temperaments.

In the KC's opinion it's accepted as a pure bred Boxer and has been for a few generations now :-)
Oh and one of my bobtails has won 2 AV Working Puppy awards and BPIB and Working Group 2.
A friends has been short listed for the CC and has BPIS at a Breed Ch show.
Another friends bobtail has won BPIS at a recent Breed open show.

In a Scandanavian country (sorry can't remember which one) there is already a bobtail champion which would have also gained a working certificate
to be awarded it's champion title.

Of my 5 Boxers 2 are of bobtail bloodlines and they are as Boxer as the others and no one realised they were bobtails at Discover Dogs
until I pointed it out (one has a long tail) ;-)
