A rather delicate enquiry this... But could someone tell me why some handlers fondle their dogs' nether regions in the ring?

This was particularly marked in the bulldog ring at a recent show I attended. Had never noticed before, but of course having noticed, I kept on noticing!

They must love there dogs (and showing)  way to much!!!!!!!!! to do this just to keep them still.

:d :d  It does make the boys stand still at times, have to admit that I'm occasionally guilty of doing this, he, he!!

my boy sits in my hand if i try to do this so i only tried it once as having a newf sit in your hand is not very comfotable.

Mine is a free standing breed so would look a bit odd to do this in the ring, BUT I have a boy who can be taken aback by sudden touches on his body so I have been know to keep grabbing his balls just before he goes in the ring, so he's already prepared for it to happen. :-)

We take this hobby far too seriously, don't we?! LOL I've also been guilty of this to calm a very young and lively Dane that I was handling. Certainly worked for him. (Hope my husband doesn't read this, will put a stop to me going to dog shows, through jealousy!)

LOL! I've never done that - however I and a friend have both gently dug my boy in the balls to make him stand up when he sat down on the table in his younger days! :-D

Ha ha, I wondered why the food  vans at dog shows always hand out the food in napkins - what with all those people tickling their dog's balls all day! :-)
ali - with a staffy not a chow, but very cheeky!

Going to have a go at showing my new pup, first timer already worrying about everything (in a nervously excited sort of a way and the poor boy isn't two weeks old yet!) This wasn't something that was on my list................have heard of tickling fish but think that I will leave this to the experienced "handlers" LOL!

Hi Jemima - have you got all the information together that you needed for for article on breeding/showing dogs yet?
By tadog (***) [gb] Date 14.06.08 09:25 GMT
never done this in the ring.....but when my boys were having upsidedown cuddle I did.  I called them my worry beads.

> I called them my worry beads

LOL IN my family they  get called 'bollen' after a delicious desert my daughter found in Holland, Oliebollen, which means something like greasy balls :-o  Menfolk ( human and canine ) are informed by us women that they have pea bollen, cherry bollen, elephant bollen etc. Puppy boy has less than pea bollen - petit pois LOL

Lol.
Think I,ll stick with showing bitches if this is what you need to do to get the boys to stand for you

I am guilty!  But the thing is, I dont do it to males, I touch just infront of the nether regions on my bitches while on the table.  Kinda cup them I guess???  It makes it so they are less likely to jump up.  Works for my girls.

My aunt does it with her males, and it really does help.  She has a male right now, that loves everyone, and will try to jump into the judges arms as he is on the table.  I think it kinda gives him something else to think about??? lol
This is the last time I will allow you to take a breath from my lungs to fill your own.

Well I saw one handler tickling a bitch, too.. so I don't think it's exclusive to the boys.
