Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / Missing Dogs / Found - Greyhound/Saluki cross, Cambs

I heard today that an old Greyhound/Saluki cross was stolen from outside our local shop in Bury, Cambridgeshire yesterday. The owner is in her nineties and I see her out in all weathers walking this dog. Two men were seen walking away with it, while she popped into the shop for a minute. The dog looks almost as old as her owner so I can't understand why they would take her:(
The dog has the Greyhound short coat but the Saluki colourings, with a black back and cream stomach.
I'll try to confirm more details tomorrow.

This is truly very sad, and a sign of our times!! That poor lady and dog. They must both be so upset and lonely. I know what I would like to do to those dog thieves. We had a similar incident local to me, and that was a saluki cross, but only about three years old. Same situation, tied up outside a shop, and in a few short minutes ..vanished. The owner is totally devastated. He has put notices up everywhere, but to no avail. I do hope this elderly pair are reunited again. Please let us know.

Phil, don't think it applies to wolfies so much, but in some parts of the country theft is a real problem with the type of running dog used in non-NCC (ie money & betting) coursing, 'best of three' matches and so on. So if there has been a theft near you, ca' canny with Kloud. The annual travellers' Horse Fair is on in the village at the moment, so our place is like Fort Knox for the week.

Think I've aready told you that we had an attempted deerhound theft the same week many years ago. It was foiled (in some style :D!) by Corrib, but that's why we got Bully Beef the bullmastiff. She'd only have wagged and licked thieves to death, but we hoped that wannabe deerhound-pinchers didn't know that.

Lynn, only a guess, but the guys who took the dog may have been told that there is a 'market' for this type of dog, but be such morons that they didn't recognise its age. If that's anything like right, then with luck they will let the dog loose (hopefully near the owner) when they discover that no one wants it. Hope the owner has made a real song and dance to the police, local rescues etc as they might know the people the dog is likely to be offered to, if not the thieves. Fingers crossed for the owner and dog - please keep us posted.

I am extremely relieved to say the dog has been recovered. Guess where from?:-( There were about twenty other dogs on the campsite with this one. They may not have such a happy ending.
