What were your fav groups/singers, and songs, from 'way back then'....yes this may age us a bit

Because of being at a riding school every weekend, I can remember a lot of early 60's music onwards, but the first record (45) I bought was 'Sugar Sugar' by The Archies...**blushes**
Loved The Monkies, status Quo, Bay City Rollers, mud, david cassidy, David Bowie (anyone remember his 'The Laughing Gnome) Another David whos last name won't come but wow did I fancy him LOL ...Showwaddywaddy, Slade, Sweet, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Marc Bolan and T. Rex, Roxy music, the list is endless....and anything i could dance too as well!

Think the first record I bought was Level 42 Running in the Family. Also liked Fine Young Cannibals, Erasure (still like them too) Terence Trent D'Arby, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, and Bucks Fizz!! Oh yes also anything I could dance too as well.

The first record I bought was Little Children by Billy J Kramer. I remember the music from when I was very little because my brothers were quite a bit older than me so they listened to a lot. I too loved the Monkees, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Slade, David Bowie ... in fact it's probably quicker to list people I didn't like!

You know, that thought passed through my mind when i added a select few.....I could go on and on with all the songs, singers etc I loved back then. Some do bring back some really happy memories of sunshine days, or cripsy winter days, when life seemed slower and richer somehow. OMG I'm really getting old ***arghhhhh*****

Being born in the late 70's my fav songs / artist that I can remember are:

Alexandra O'Neil, Michael Bolton (eek!), Rick Ashley (double eek!)

My fav of all times and still is MADONNA! used to try and dress like her in the 80's but my sister always looked a better 'Madonna' dresser then me!
Learnt all her songs (80's) and used to watch her concert at every given opportunity and copy while she was performing!

I still like her stuff now, some better then others, but especially like the song she done recently with Justin Timberlake! (yum yum!)

When I was very small, I remember the girls who lived above us would bring me and my sister upstairs to their place to listen to records and dance - 'knock 3 times on the ceiling if you want me' and 'riding along on my push bike honey' my mum would listen to perry como so I knew all the songs of by heart ( and liked them too )

My first album was Wombles Of Wimbledon Common then Jackson 5, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Four Tops etc
I also listened to the Carpenters and loads of Elvis Presley. I even cried when he passed away - I was going to marry him and my sis was going to marry Cliff Richard

My best album was Off the Wall by Michael Jackson

Has to be Paul Young...... I played the album No Parlez until it wouldn't play any more....
Also loved (and still do), John Farnham (as everyone says who ???) who sang You're The Voice on the Whispering Jack album.
Also, followed A-ha all over the country as well.......

i was on holiday in wales with my parents and i heard on the radio that elvis was dead!
it ruined the whole holiday as i cried and cried for the whole 2 weeks
i even made the following statement..."my life is over,what have i got to live for now"
this came as quite a shock to my parents as i had never mentioned liking him or even listened to his music and  i was only 11......lol
i then made a mug in pottery with i love Elvis on it and its still in use today but as a pen cup as the handle fell off...

My first record i bought was salt n pepa, push it LOL, loved Madonna, still love her now got most of her albums. Was in love with Micheal Jackson loved thriller, a classic.

  I was a Beatles fan rather than a Stones.  However I loved the Kinks.  When I think of music from this era I think of being on holidays by the sea when my parents actually played Radio Luxembourg quietly in the caravan and I heard things like 'Under the boardwalk' with the sound of the sea in the background.  Can't remember what the first record I ever bought was - still here somewhere.  But I was certainly a Monkees fan - got all of those records.  My son bought me the 'best of CD' not so long ago.

When I started buying albums in was Led Zeppelin, I remember saving up so I could go and buy Physical Graffitti on the day it was released (it's still my favorite album).  Other favorites included the Clash, Deep Purple etc.  The first single that was bought for me (and my brother) was Tie My Kangeroo Down by Rolf Harris! I don't remember if it was us or my mum who actually liked it, I was about 5 at the time.

I remember listening to Radio Caroline on Saturday nights when they had a countdown of songs on a particular theme, I remember Songs for your wedding night and number one was Get it Right Next Time by Gerry Rafferty

I liked all the usual 70s popular stuff such as Rod Stewart, T-Rex, Alice Cooper etc, but really I was a Tamla Motown girl through and through.  My friend had some Tighten Up LPs and we used to dance to those in her living room.  Recently I've been revisiting some of my other old favourites, Jimi Hendrix and a bit of Ska (The Specials).

The good old days

I went to see David Essex last year with some old school friends. I have to say he still has that sparkle. The  last time I saw him I was about 15 years old and had the usual crush LOL
I only went to be with the crowd, but I actually had a good time!

First record I actually bought with my own money. I think it was called "Tell Him" by a band called Pilot.. or was it "Bye Bye Baby"by the Bay City Rollers!!!

Funny thing happened to me yesterday, I was having a manicure (youngish beautician) and she said she had just been listening to a song from the 60's and wondered how it had been allowed to go on release as it was obviously to do with a peadophile, it made her feel sick as it was so 'pervy' her words!

When I asked what it was because I certainly hadn't realised we were so bad in the 60's she said it was something about 'Young Girl'!  I remember this song so well, I think it was Gary Pucket and the Union Gap (or something like that) and I didn't for one minute think it was pervy.  I loved the song, now I'm not so sure........

There were one or two 'banned' records from the 60's, which wouldnt be looked at as awful today....Judge Dread big 5, 6 7 and maybe more, and one called wet dreams....that was soooooo banned, I'm not sure if I should put the utube link up lol....1968.

oh, such fun and innocent times really, many songs from then had hidden and not so hidden meanings some I'v only come to realise now I'm older.....dohhhhh   Norty 60's! The youth of today think they invented it...hahaha

I don't remember them but I think Je T'aime (excuse my french) was also banned and I so loved that!  In fact I can't get the tune out of my head now.

Wehn I was 15/16 I loved the Stones, the Beatles, Kinks, T Rex, James Taylor, Family, Argent, Black Sabbath, Free ...oh grief, the list IS endless.....loads of singers pre being 15 as well ..Monkees, Dave Clark 5 , Dave Dee etc...

First LP I bought was probably Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon by james Taylor ...or Sticky Fingers by the Stones. First single was Paranoid by Black Sabbath and Creeddence Clearwater Revivals Bad Moon arising

Went to a 60's charity ball a few weeks ago and The Searchers were playing along with The Paper Dolls, (something, here, here, here in my heart) and that is another one of those songs that goes over and over in your mind when you don't really know why! 

Definitely had a rebellious streak in me in my early teenage years!

I liked The Beatles, later on Duran Duran, UB40, Gary Nueman. Saw Elton John, Genesis, Tine Turner, Flletwood Mac, Jethro Tull. My brothers liked Deep Purple, Who, Alice Cooper.
Vary varied music fist LP was when I was about 11, I got The Hollies Greatest Hits.
Also still like Neil Diamond, Elton, James Blunt, Scissor Sisters.
I also went to the Isle of Wight concert and saw my all time great Jimmy Hendrix!!!

I love youtube, my lads introduced it to me, great to see and listen to all the old favs...makes you have a spring in your step and wish your body could do what it did back then

The first record I ever bought was 'Together we are Beautiful' by Fern Kinney, remember that? 1979 I think.  First album was The Pretenders first album.  Classic.  At the time also loved: Blondie, Boomtown Rats, Specials, Clash and later Depeche Mode.  But few years later really liked listening to Californian 60's sounds of Lovin Spoonful, Byrds, Mammas & papas, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills Nash etc.  Don't tastes change?

My kids today listen to, imo, a complete pile of tripe - so I try and educate where necessary.  Like:  "It's mum's choice of CD is car today" and normally get a chorus of groans, even from OH!

Not sure that they do change that much.  We all like our particular genres but I find that the old stuff is played by the youngsters.  Certainly in my house one of my daughters would be playing jungle (Agghhhhhh, can't stand it) one day and then The Verve the next.  In fact some of my favourite CDs have gone walkabout, (Hendrix, Blues stuff) thank goodness I have the albums on my itunes.

I like a lot of the new stuff around today, most recent purchase being the Hoosiers and I love my daughter's club mixes and the Radio One Live Lounge compilations some of which are mixed old songs anyway.

Although, it has to be said Pilot were a great band also from my city of Edinburgh, Dave Paton and Iain Bairnston of Pilot went on to be  session musicians playing with some very big names in the pop industry, Pilot had hits such as "January" and "Magic".

Clair is just a song about an uncle, besotted by his young neice, I can't see anything in that still. I know he has the line about 'when I grow up Im going to marry you uncle ray' but that was back in the 70's, when marriage meant so much more and was a way of a child showing how very much they loved someone. Goodness, I even had a little boy i babysat for back then say that to me, and I'm not a perv LOL...

Back then gay meant happy, girls were named Gaye, so much was innocent, without the double meanings given to anything you say or do today. men could play with their sons and daughters, other child relations, tickle them, roll them around amid squeels of laughter and no one turned a hair. Today, well it can be looked at differently, and no doubt Clair would seem a pervy song now. sad sign of our times.
Then came Gary G......and we all know what his songs were about now! I always thought there was something odd about him though, especially the 'do ya wanna touch' song but like thousands I danced along to all he produced.
