My brother is getting married in August,  he has told everyone that he does not want any presents as they have just baught a house and loads of new stuff to go in it, he has asked for money insted,  thing is I dont have a clue how much would be the appropriate amount to give, he is wanting to buy a plasma TV out of the money (men ehh?), so if it were you, how much would you give?, I was thinking £25 from me and £25 of my partner, is £50 enough or am I being tight?  Please be honest, I dont want to show myself up.

Im Sure your brother would be happy for you to give whatever you can afford / feel is right.
After all its about sharing your wedding day with those you love ( family and friends ) not the gifts.
But if you are still worried 50.00 pounds seems more then enough to me.

But it depends on you and your finances really.....£25  is not the same percentage for everyone of their monthly allowance.
Bill Gates' £25 is nothing compared to my £25.........

My cousin got married 2 years ago & asked for money as her & her husband were moving back to egypt (where her hubby is from), they asked for guests not to give more than £5, it all added up to a hefty sum of money for them to take with them

£50 sounds plenty, I would have been very happy with that for a wedding gift I hope you all have a lovely day

Our daughter married back in May and because they have a house and all the things in it they asked for John Lewis vouchers as they wanted a new TV.  The average amounts from relatives were £25 & £50.  So I think your £50 from you and your partner is about right, and as someone pointed out it is what you can afford and not about the presents anyway

if you can afford £50, then I think this is ample, if your finances are very tight your brother will know this and not want you to put yourself into trouble by giving a huge amount. If you are a multi millionaire though, perhaps you could order the TV

When we got married (many moons ago) my middle brother gave us £100.  I was overwhelmed, because he was only 18 at the time and didn't earn that much.  However, he was adamant and we were grateful (our house was nowhere near furnished).  But when he got married 9 years later, I felt I should do the same to him.  However, we then had two small children, a larger mortgage, and I had just given up work to stay home full time.  It was a real struggle to give him the money back, but I felt it was only right (even though it was worth a bit less after 9 years).

£50 is much better and they will get a nice sum together for their Plasma!

It depends on financial circumstances and everyone will be different, but if you are financially ok with it being your brother I would personally be giving £100, (which would work out cheaper than a present I would end up buying) I usually give £50 to friends, but it is what you can afford and what you as a family are used to giving.  Some families would think £50 extremely generous, some £20 and some very generous amounts.

What would your brother be giving you?  Base it on that.
