Playing hide and seek the other day with Sal in the park and people stopped and asked what I was doing and found it interesting...does anyone do hide and seek? or am I as weird as they seemed to think I was.

Hide and seek consists of me hiding a toy of hers in her case a dummy used by people who train gundogs...........she has to go find it, makes her brain work. Who says Staffords can't scent find.

I've always played hide and seek with pups, best way to keep them close to you!

I play it but in a different way.  I hide and she has to seek   It keeps her on her toes, usually my giggling gives it away.

i used to play it with my lot..............I hide they seek............until one day dog found me was so excited jumped up hit me in the face and cracked a tooth LOL

I have a daft husband who hides in trees-and then is so thrilled when the Lab looks up smiling at him-Ah well that goes to show most men are boys !!!

I always play Hide and Seek when im teaching my dogs to stay close to me particularly if they are more interested in a scent and ignoring my re call.I hide, they seek as they dont like it when im out of sight...keeps them on their toes and they love the big fuss they get when they find me too.

We play it in the house. I hold the dogs and hubby hides, behind curtains etc - fab fun. O we get a piece of liver and make a trail on the floor and see if they can follow it to the hidden treat when we say find it. I find boxers like mind games and they are good at figuring things out

Mine has been known to lie behind the sofa!! and he's 53!!!

I try and play it with Jack but its pretty difficult as he never lets me out of his sight!

We used to play with the GSD's but the BMD's are not so keen. I remember one memorable day out with 6 full grown GSD's and I ran of to hide Hubby kept the doggies waiting for a couple on moments then sent them after me, Well we lived in Gosport at the time and ran the dogs at a place called Browndown, all HMF land and used to train new recrutes at one time. It was crisscrossed with deep trenches and overgrown with high ferns, The dogs loved it and you could run through the trenches for miles. They were so high you were lost in them. I was running as fast as I could (Lot younger then ) and flew out of a trench into a grassy clearing, and low and behold a courting couple were...yes well... use your imagination!!...on the grass so I flew past them with a cheery hi, then a couple of minuts later six huge speeding GSD's must have belted through the clearing, hopefully jumping over them or running round them!! hope they didn't stand on them!!! Never saw anything more of the couple, possibly mentally scarred for life!!!
Now with the BMD's if I ran off they would look at Dad and say..."well whats the point she will be back in a jiffy" BMD's don't like to waste energy that could be put to good use like eating!!

Always do it with henry out on a walk too with a piece of garden hose.  I drop it in the grass and ask him to find. 

Doesnt half come in useful for training scent.

He loves it!  His tail goes ten to the dozen when he is searching its great fun for him.

Aww, we are always hiding from our dog when out for a walk behind trees etc, Woof's always so pleased with himself when he finds us!  I hope noone else ever sees us as they'd probably think we were nuts!

Merlot, I bet that courting couple have never forgot either!

I hide in the woods & play a great game in the house. It's hunt the polo, sugar free of course!

I have been doing this on walks as my Berner seems to ignore the 'come ' command when he chooses to. I call him and then he has to find me and yes every time he has done this, he gets so excited when he realises he has found me.

Though the sight of another dog does mean that he has a tendency to loose interest in me regardless if i have a treat or not, he just wants to say hi and play to this other dog.

We did this with our bernese too when she decided to go deaf for a while - we simply stopped at the top of the walk while she raced off round the corner, she disappeared for a while but we all kept quiet, no shouting or anything, a short while later back she came up the hill and round the corner, she was sooo happy to see us and I have to say she has never done a disappearing act since so it obviously taught her something . mind you if you have a pocketful of treats she will glue herself to your leg for the entire walk!

Now our Swedish lapphund would have ignored us completely and gone back to the car on his own

My friend's rottie surprised a couple having a little rendevous in an open field popular with dog walkers. The bloke screamed something about a killer dog and ran off leaving his girlfriend behind with the dog. My friend apologized and walked the poor girl back to the car then proceeded to wait for her 'gallant' boyfriend to turn up. He had the car keys. An HOUR later the wuss came back babbling about what a horrible beast that was only to find her with the dog's head in her lap getting his ears tickled. Just the kind of boyfriend every girl wants eh?
