Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bed Sores - Widows Elbow?

My Dobermann insists on sleeping on the tiles of my utility room despite having a raised soft bed. This has resulted in him developing bed sores and I was wondering if anyone would like to suggest a quick fix solution to get rid of his sores. I have been told to use baby oil on it to take away the dryness and to promote regrowth of hair. Your comments are welcomed

Sudocream may work just remember not to use to much as this can make the sores worse.

Only way is to get your Dog to lay on something soft, try a large piece of vet bed on the floor first, if this does not work you may have to shut him in a room with a carpet. Ja:)kie

Carpets can sometimes be worse than tiles. My oldest has a bald patch on her chest where she lays in the sphinx position and this I can't seem to do anything about but if her elbows get bad I squeeze them and then put savlon in it. My male's elbows are just getting bad were he drags a carpet outside and lays on it and he is not as patient (or stoical) so I just use savlon on him.

Something soft such as vet bed type bedding or quilts, beanbags (ha-ha) are probably the best.

Hi. This has worried me a bit. Barney (whose as some may know has had ops on both his legs) wont sleep on any sort of bed - just the floor. Wooden floors downstairs and wood laminate in my bedroom where he sleeps with us overnight. He gets on our bed about 5am in the morning and spends the rest of the time on the floor. He is a lhasa who, because of his operations, has a lot of fur at the moment. Do you think he is okay sleeping as he does? He sleeps in the grate in the living room when we watch TV too which is black granite or some such material. There is a bed in every room for both dogs but he wont use them.
Many thanks Gina
PS He doesnt appear to have any sores anywhere just had a look!

I have tried everything - I have had bean bags and fancy dog beds that have cost me a fortune, they usually only last one day and are ripped to shreads all along the garden. I have Vet Bed now - which is supposed to be virtually indestructable and he has had a good rip at that - this was after it has been nailed to a raised wooden platform. I am keeping going with the baby oil and I will try the sudocream and the savlon as the show is on Sunday - But they have been getting better. Thanks for all your advise guys!
