Hi, we already have a Ridgeback, as well as our Weimaraners, and I am looking for a good quality Ridgeback pup to show.  I have looked at the KC website and on Champdogs, but a lot of the kennels don't show.

We have not shown before but have a good (so I'm told!) ringcraft class nearby and we would like to give it a go.

We would prefer a dog, but if the right bitch came along we would consider her.

Thanks in advance!

Louise

Please pm breeders details and do not post them here.

Have you thought about attending your local show to meet breeders/exhibitors there?

when i was looking for my ridgeback i contacted my local breed club (RR club of scotland), sent an email to the puppy co-ordinator, telling her who i was, what i do, my lifestyle, experience with dogs etc, and explained what i was looking for. she then sent me details of people planning a litter over the next year, and i found my breeder and 8months later had my beautiful boy, now 9months old and very handsome!
Where in the country are you? The club is having a champ show in November in Lanark, Scotland.

Hi Louise

What a shame you didn't post a few days ago - the RR Club of GB had its championship show yesterday in the Midlands!  I would strongly suggest that you attend a few shows and have a really good look at the dogs, see if there are dogs you particularly like and then see who bred them, or if the people who own them have breeding plans.  We don't all have the same ideas about what is a "show quality" dog!!

The Midlands & Northern RR Club have an open show on:
Sunday 12th October 2008
Polesworth Memorial Hall, Bridge St., Polesworth, Tamworth, B78 1DT
Judges Mr Athony Edwards (Dogs)
Mrs Anne Harrower (Bitches)
Referee Miss P. Barber
All Proceeds to M. & N. R. R. C. Rescue Fund
Show Opens 10.00 am Judging Commences 10.30 am

The RR Club of Scotland have their champ show at Lanark on 8 November, and LKA is at the NEC in December.  The bulk of the showing season is over now.

You are very sensible to be looking out for breeders who show - sadly all too many people sell a correctly marked pup as being of "show quality" - there's a bit more to it than that!!

Good luck and feel free to pm if you like.  I used to show VERY seriously - and with some success :-) :-)

I'll assume you're not in a hurry since you have another puppy at home so going to shows is a great idea. Sort of a shopping center ;-) You can see what lines appeal to you and meet several breeders. If you want to show yourself attending a few shows would give you some idea of who is producing nice quality pups. For me liking the breeder is important too as you'll have some relationship with this person over time so that's another benefit of getting to meet people in person. You may just click with someone. Good luck.

Oh and of course, there's always the standard - contact the breed club. (but if I were interested in showing I'd be attending shows to see for myself)

Thanks for all your advice, we are in no hurry, It will take time to find the right puppy for us.  Bad timing on my part with the season coming to a close, but i will definately get to some shows either this year or next and speak to the breeders before we decide on a line.
