I am getting a 8 week old ckcs on wednesday and found out from the breeder on thursday after the puppy had been for her vet check that she has no tear duck in her right eye.
The breeder let us phone the vet and speak to him who told us what was involved in look after her eye.
We then spoke to the breeder again and told her we would still have the puppy and she said that she would not ask for the 380 pounds that we were paying,but would just keep the 50 pounds deposit.
Has any one else had this problem with there dog and what did they do,how did they cope with it and did it ever repair its self

Personally I wouldn't buy any puppy that I knew had lifelong medical problems. As the problem has been discovered know your insurance won't cover any eye problems and spaniels are frequent sufferers of problem eyes.

I admire you for still wanting to buy the puppy but to be perfectly homest with you - I'd look for another puppy from another breeder.

I don't know if this helps but I bred a puppy who latter in life{age 2} turned out to have a blocked tear duct.
Basically she has no discomfort from it just a tear stain down her face.
The vet has flushed it out twice with no sucess and has said he can opperate but as it isn't bothering her and causing no problem then he would rather leave it.......
It needs no special care other than just wipping her face where the stain is

I trim 3 cavaliers with tear duct problems. 2 have no tear ducts and 1 has a blocked tear duct. It causes them no problems at all and they need "no lifelong" treatment! On windy days the owners wipe the eyes.

I think that your breeder is being very honest and extremely fair about the price. She deserves a brownie point and I wouldn't expect you to have any problem with your pup. There seems to be quite an incidence of this in Cavaliers and so maybe wouldn't be a good idea to continue the line. Enjoy her.

I have a 10 year old American cocker bitch who has no tear duct in one eye. At her first eye test aged just over 12 months the eye specialist advised us to have an operation done, but on asking my own vet she said "wait and see". Peggy-Sue is a red and White, with an all white face apart from her eye patches, and does have a little staining. The eye gets wiped whenever anything is visible (probably 3 or 4 times per week) apart from that no problems in 9 years (and this in a breed with notorious eye problems)

Full marks to your breeder for being so up-front about it, though.
