Don't think it is what you are feeding, but think you should have it looked at just to be on the safe side and to put your mind at rest. Jackie

If one leg is bigger than the other then I would definitely get the vet to investigate.

have been too the vets when he was aged 3 weeks and they said it would either come right or be deformed.

Think I would want a better explanation than that. What is it, and why? What does the breeder say? Jackie

Vicki, is it possible that the pup got a minor greenstick fracture in the nest? Doubt that you are really going to sort out what it is without an X-ray.

Wondering like Sharon if there has been any impact to the bone, is there any heat in the area ?horses get bony protrusions called splints, can occur at any age but usually due to impact or jarring. Laser treatment has good results if used ealry enough before new bone hardens off
Good luck Lorraine

having a nightmare
typically this puppy is pick of litter the people who have the litter are deciding to stick to there own vet who said that he wont x ray till 12 weeks.

i told them i would like the litter (as i am the breeder technically) to see MY vet who i trust 100%.
there vet has said that they cannot sort it till 12 weeks so no point x raying.
my argument is that what if a 7 week old puppy fractures a bone would they wait till its 12 weeks or would they x ray it straight away.

i think the leg has been broken from a very young age and we only noticed it when he tried too walk.obviously before then we didnt take much notice of the legs.
now it has just healed itself WRONG.
they are gonna keep him to the 12 weeks then take it from there.

vicki(very frustrated about being able too do nothing)

Was the puppy picked as the pick of the litter before you noticed it?

If it is your puppy also can you no insist to have it looked at by you vet?

Sounds like you are in a pickle.

no
as i was keeping my eye on them all
and have had too pick something else as mine as i feel he will turn out a pet only.
i think the damage has already been done and it will be too late too get a 100% recovery.

at least if he is there till 12 weeks then if he does turn out ok i can still have the opportnity of getting him.
he wont be rehomed anyway if there is any permenant damage

Hi Vicki,

Can I ask what your breeding arrangement was. If you don't want to that is fine.

I had a pup x-rayed at three weeks when it first started to try to stand up and could not bear weight on one leg. The growth plate had been crushed (probably by mum getting into box) and showed up clearly.

Loan of bitch is a breeding terms arrangement, it still means there are two parties, and technicaly you are in a worse position, as the puppy buyers wil cometo you if there are problems. Regardless of Symantics, this is still an area where problems can occur.

I bred a litter on a loan of bitch as the owners wanted the bitch to have a litter, and keep a puppy from her, but could not do it themselves due to wifes poor health, and husband still working part time!

Unfortunately the bitch needed a section and was quite poorly, as she had bad enteritis just prior to coming to stay withme, which had run her condition down.

All worked out well in the end, but if anything had happened to the bitch, I am sure that a friendship would have been ended or badly strained. I wouldn't do it again!

when i said loan of a bitch i didnt mean anything was put into writing or had the forms from the kennel club
i only put the bitch into my name and have reg them as a Activior litter
she has gone back over to them now
and all the owners of the puppies (which are 2 as we r keeping the rest )and the owner of the bitch know that any problems they goto who they paid there money too.

all i have too do with it is the kc is a activior name
all reciepts etc are in the owners name...........

i wouldnt fall out with a very good friend over it my friends are very honest and genuine.
and we trust and respect each other.

I am glad Vicki, it is just that if anything goes wrong then it can become fraught.

On another tack it seems that co-ownership seems to be the common for show, breeding, and pet stock in the states so that the breeder keeps control. The ownership will be transfered if the pet is neutered, other wise it stays so that the owner can't breed or show without the breeders say so.

I can't see people here being willing for a breeder to have so much control over their dog, that they have paid for, maintain, and incur all expenses.

different world!

I had a puppy buyer ask me to keep a pup until they came back from holiday, this turned out to be until pup was 15 weeks. I had agreed to this, so long as it was paid for by 8 weeks.

When payment didn't arrive, I didn't like to push. At 10 weeks it fell awkwardly when jumping off back doorstep chasin one of the others. It was very upset, wouldn't put front leg to ground and I took to vet, who found nothing amiss and gave pain killers.

About a week later I noticed that it se3emed to have two knobs for a knee not one!!

Back to vet and saw a consultant, and it had fractured both radiys and ulna above the wrist, and it was healing well. It was bandaged and given extra support, and all turned out well, and as the vet pronounced pup sound new owners were happy to have her.

Lesson learnt, make sure you have the payment for the pup, and arrange transfer of ownership and Insurance for a pup you agree to care for. Expensive lesson!

I am glad the pups leg will be OK!!! :D
