I had a knock on the door late last night from my very distraught neighbour. Her Golden Retriever had collapsed at the bottom of her steep garden and she and her daughter had been struggling to get him up and into the house. The vet was called and after a lot of heartbreak, tears and soul searching he was sadly PTS. He had been ill and struggling to walk for some time now and they knew it was 'the time'.
It was one year and two weeks since my own beautiful boy left us and in struggling to reassure my neighbour I remembered these words which I'm putting on a wee card with her boys photograph.
I hope you don't mind if I leave these words here and hopefully they will bring some comfort to anyone who has lost their own wee soul mate:
We have a secret, you and I that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I can see the bending grass.

I hope the dogs rest at the bridge well xx
My thoughts are with everyones who's lives he touched x
