Thats exactly why all this came up.  If he would have kept in contact with me and explained then I still would have been a bit annoyed as I have been waiting since November but I wouldnt have not worried about being ripped off.

Anyway I'll let you all know if I get it (or not).

Mark has been in contact and after a few strong words he has refunded my money!!! Also he was suppose to have rung me yesterday about still supplying me with the guard but as yet no call.  He says that I dont have to pay him for the product until its delivered which obviously I wouldnt have done anyway.  At least I've got my money back so good result.  I'll let you know if I ever get the guard.

At least you aren't out of pocket now. i wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the guard to arrive

Hi, I think a refund is the least he can do in the circumstances - if his story of stolen stock is true he should have called you immediately.  If he is a genuine manufacturer his customer service is appalling, if he isn't genuine (as we suspect) then it seems you may have had a lucky escape.  I wonder if this thread, which it seems he has read, was the reason!!

I've recently shopped around for tailguards and choose to buy from Barjo in the end, it came in exactly 2 weeks and is extremely well made.  I was impressed with the service offered by Barnesbrooke and Guardsman too.  MMG gets good feedback from others but I didn't quite get what I hoped for in my email responses but that may just be me being picky!  Have you tried eBay for secondhand stuff as there is a lot out there.  You can adapt too.  My OH has just bought an old Golf Estate (banger!!) for towing, and trips to the airport and station.  We managed to fit an old Mondeo tailguard in that with no adaptations; slightly larger gaps at the top than you might get in a custom fit but nothing we can't live with.

Fingers crossed that you get sorted, one way or the other :-)

I'm sure that this thread had a lot to do with my getting the money back.  He was quite taken aback when I mentioned his wifes naame and that someone off here had been round to check out the address. Thanks a lot guys for all the info you gave me.  Still waiting to hear from him about the tailgate.  I will try and go on ebay etc to get a second hand one.  Maybe an Astra Zafira one could be converted for a Ford SMAX.

Well Mark Cartwright nevr did get back to me about the delivery of the tailgate guard.  I will now have to order another one from a tried and tested company.  I hope everyone that has helped me with this fiasco will let as many people know about this man and his dodgy dealings so as few people as possible get shafted!!  I know I will put the word out to all the show fraternity and anyone else invovled with dogs that I come into contact with.
Makes you wonder if his wife is in on this too doesnt it?  Anyway thanks all of you once again for all your help.

What make and model of car do you need the tailgate for? You never know, someone on here might have one they want to sell.

Hi,

I ordered a tailgate from him on 22nd January.................

A similar story, except: 1. lost mobile phone in Birmingham 2. Tailgate went off for Powder coating (twice) 3. Was on leave 4. One of his workers was supposed to sent it to me 5. Powder coating company didn't do job correctly and it had to be sent back.

He last phoned me on Monday 2nd March to say that I would receive the tailgate on Thursday 5th March, I said I didn't believe him, he said it definately would be delivered on that date. It hasn't been delivered, he doesn't answer either of the 3 numbers I have for him or emails or contact page on his website.

I have been in touch with Consumer protection. Contacting Watchdog also!!!!

Buyer beware!!!!

I put a complaint into Paypal, but they won't help because it is over 45 days.
By Kennelmaid56 [gb] Date 14.03.09 19:26 GMT
Sorry you have had to go through all this as i did with Mark Cartwright.  There must be something we can do to stop this horrible man.  Does anyone know his wife?  He was supposed to be having a trade stand at a big agility show this year but as I do the confirmation show circuit I dot know where they are.  Maybe people can look out at these shows for the stand.

Even though you cant get your money back through paypal you should insist that your complaint it registered with them because if they get enough complaints about him they will investigate apparently.

Dont give up trying t oget your money back,

Hello everyone, I'm a Police dog handler and was searching the net for entries on Mark Cartwright and his company dogtravelproducts. Having found you it appears that I've been bitten I paid £114.99 for a tailgate for my old Ford Escort van which I use to take the dogs to and from work. That was 3.2.09. Heard nothing for two weeks questioned this by @mail and received a telephone call. My tailgate was infront of Mr Cartwright and was to be dispatched to the powder coaters that afternoon. I should receive it by the end of the following week. Nothing.

@mailed re tailgate, got a telephone call, the tailgate had returned from powder coating and was about to be sent to the courier when he noticed that the wrong tailgate had been made for a Ford Courier not Escort. He would correct the mistake and then it would have to go to the powder coaters.

Again waited but no reply, again sent @mail, received an immediate telephone call (I mean within seconds, he said he hadn't had the @mail?), he was expecting the tailgate back in the next two days, no matter what the gate would be back Thursday and he would dispatch it next day delivery due to the delays.

Even though two months had gone I was very chilled and thought these things happen and said that that wasn't necessary so long as I get it within a week! That was two weeks ago! Well I've still not got it and for the past five days I have sent repeated @mails and phone calls without an answer. I must be going soft "Could he be on holiday?"

Being a Police dog handler I don't tend to deal with frauds and the legislation changed last year. But if I remember correctly if you intentionally mislead someone into believing they will receive a product or service and knowingly have no intention of supplying that product or service then you commit fraud/deception (I believe deceptions gone from the statutes). Going on the forum on this site I would argue that its not civil its criminal and I would be quite willing to report the matter to Avon & Somerset Police. I could do with some details of others bitten and if they exist anyone who has had a successful purchase?????? or anything else that may assist, Vehicle numbers & Types. Work mates, anyone who knows Cartwright.

I feel an ass for being caught bearing in mind my occupation and I've no intention of losing my hard earned money to this without a fight I will follow this through until I get satisfaction, so if you do read this Cartwright GIVE ME MY MONEY or TAILGATE.

I'm so pleased that this thread has resurfaced as I was seriously thinking about ordering a tailgate guard from him too. Luckily I asked a question about fitting via the online contact page of his website (last week) and was waiting for a reply before I ordered. I haven't heard anything back and I also noticed that if you go in to his online shop and click buy, it says that 'This recipient is currently unable to receive money'.

I have posted wanted ads on here and another couple of sites so it will be very interesting to see whether he approaches me via email.

I received a phone call from Mr Cartwright at work the following day 16th. I later spoke with him at length that evening. I have again been promised my tailgate, which he would prefer to deliver since it is made and the F/Escort van doesn't have many orders (Nil). He states he will get it to me by Wednesday 22nd.

I would either like the tailgate or money, but prefer the tailgate, so I'm going to give him a further chance.
He apologises to me for the misleading direction on the production. States he has given his business the backseat due to personal issues that I will not go into and apologises for all the excuses. He has not been answering @mail's or phone calls because his hearts not been in his work.

He says that he has spent most of 16th phoning customers on his books 26 in number and offering money back most customers have requests the gates rather than re emburements.

The PO box address he states relates to the WEB site creator and is nothing to do with him other than he purchased his site through them. He further went on to say that the address is correct and he has a small workshop in the rear garden of his premises, further work is farmed out to a number of other small shops who work for him.

He did mention that a courier he employed just disappeared without a sign of it taking place which again ties in with previous posts.

I explained that the manner in which things had gone were very dodgy and clearly gave customers cause for concern. I suggested that he opens up and puts a post on here explaining everything and to contact customers giving tham a more acheiveable deadline or offer refund with an explanation. We all know that if the products good the price cannot be beaten. If things have been going wrong for Mr. Cartwright and he does have honour. Could we afford him a little more time/patience we've all been in positions when works the last thing we want to consider? I may be going soft, but whats another week in the scheme of 2.5 months? I will be back on here Wednesday evening if tailgate doesn't arrive.

I can't help but like the man, even though I've never met him he sounds very pleasant and hurt over what is presently taken place.

I have noted that there are no entries as to satisfied customers! or any further ones for disgruntled ones, if Mr Cartwright has contacted any of you what happened.

Ruth you can see that the prices are good, wait a week see if he returns with my goods, then see where he goes, he did mention fitting the tailgates, he can fit (Can't remember iof he charges) he mentioned an old coupl approaching Ford dealership and how he weas disgusted and what labour charges they were going to charge for fitting his tailgate to their car, so he diod it. A drill with steel bit and some self tapping screws are all thats needed.

Received a telephone call Tuesday, either the tailgate would be sent Wednesday by Fedex or Mr Cartwright would deliver the tailgate personally Thursday has he was making a drop in Chesterfield. Arrangement was that he would deliver the tailgate around midday when someone would be in.

THE TAILGATE  WAS DELIVERED 08:42 am Thursday. VERY HAPPY WITH IT easy to fit and does what I require of it.

MR.CARTWRIGHT HAS REDEEMED HIMSELF. THANK YOU

Hope everyone gets what they asked for and this was just a glitch in the tailgate world!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it sounds like he is managing to.
Give him a break.  Many businesses that have to deal with other businesses and acquire all the knock on effects that everyone is suffering just now are finding it tough.  I feel quite sorry for this man.  He clearly is not a total fraudster, taking money for pruducts or services he has no intention of delivering and few would have had their difficulties so publicly aired making it even more difficult for them to keep their heads above water with continuing orders.

I ordered and paid for a tailgate guard on 17th March 2009.  I have complained several times, by telephone, email etc. advising I will take the matter further. Typically I just get the 'standard paragragh response' that he keeps sending out automatically.  Both his phones are never ever available.  I was told by him originally this tailgate guard would be delivered within 2.5 weeks max. i.e. by the end of March - it is now more than 6 weeks.  I am now seriously considering reporting this man to the police,  as this surely could be considered as gaining funds by criminal fraud?  My order no. was 216, how many other people are in the same boat?  Assuming he has taken at least 216 orders by 17th March, judging by my order no, this means he could have pocketed in excess of 24K until this date, and for what?  Is anyone else still awaiting delivery after so long?

By Bronx [gb] Date 19.05.09 09:04 GMT
I can't believe this is still going on. I can only assume that being a Police officer had the right impact. The gate I finally received after 2.5 months was satisfactory for my requirements. BUT I wouldn't hva e placed it in my personal car. Only the vehicle I use to travel to work and back.

I have seen many tailgates, the finish isn't quite the same as those. The hinge weld broke within two days. Although guaranteed? I could not and would not contact Mr Cartwright. The mechanic I use welded it within 5 minutes of seeing him. four minutes of which was getting the welding kit out of his garage.

Although I have said give this man a chance to correct his errors, I did not expect any further negative entries on this site. He is letting himself and everyone else down. Jan have you managed to speak direct to Cartwright?
By teamgwilym [gb] Date 19.05.09 10:21 GMT
I'm another one having problems with Dog Travel Products. I placed an order for an Audi A3 tailgate guard 2 months ago after having spoken to the delightfully friendly Mark Cartwright. He said at the time that they were behind with orders and it would take about 2.5 weeks to complete. I duly sent my £140 cheque and since then I've had a whole host of believable excuses, such as on holiday/powder coaters let him down, etc. They never answer the phone and e-mails are rarely replied to. More recently I had a call from "Chris" - It was an odd conversation and he said he was new to the company and trying to sort out the mess. He promised that the guard would be back from the powder coaters by the end of the week. He then left a message stating it had been shipped to me on 11th May. I've tried endlessly to contact them since them for courier name and tracking number, but no replies and no delivery. Looking back at the strange conversation with "Chris", I have a feeling this might actually have been Mark Cartwright. I have today contacted Trading Standards and taken their advice. It seems such a shame......... from Bronx's posts they do actually make these and it would be a good business if they actually delivered what was promised!
By dogs a babe (***) [gb] Date 19.05.09 15:58 GMT

> since then I've had a whole host of believable excuses,

Way back when this thread first started I did a drive-by of Mark Cartwrights address as I pass by there quite often.  The address he gives, where he is supposed to employ 6 people, does not actually exist.  It is a huge housing estate and the closest number to that given appears to be a maisonette (or perhaps a tiny house).  Bronx was later told that this IS the correct address and Mr Cartwright operates out of a shed in his own garden.  If that's true then he must be a tiny bloke as a rabbit hutch would make this garden look small...

With all the information given here since February it seems reasonable to conclude that Dog Travel Products is a scam - albeit one with a friendly and convincing con artist at the helm.

Teamgwilym you might be thankful that Bronx didn't send their tailgate back - Mark Cartwright might then have sent it to you instead.  Good luck in getting this sorted - I hope you can salvage something from this debacle

Long time since I last visited this forum, does anyone still have issues with Mark Cartwright? Are the issues experienced now sorted? Are they still trading?
By Jaspersmum (**) [gb] Date 24.01.10 15:36 GMT
To the best of my knowledge he has ceased trading, Trading Standards were/are still "working with him" and despite promises that the money would all be paid, I am still owed £150 for a guard not received nor do I expect to see. When I ran a search on him  (Oct 09) there were at least 14 outstanding court orders against him for sums of money from a few hundred to thousands.  I therefore decided not to persue further court action as it seemed his only action was likely to be bankruptcy.

Did think there was a chance of seeing my money after a couple of emails saying he was selling off equipment and he had led Trading Standards to understand that everyone would get their money.  Anoyed as he was obviously already in trouble when he accepted my order and I don't think there was ever intent to supply, he was also signing for my recorded delivery letters asking for goods/money back.

I would also be interested to know if anyone had any better results
By Flatties [gb] Date 12.11.10 17:36 GMT
Having just joined this forum, I have read all the posts relating to our friend 'Mark@.  I too was caught out by him, he received my payment of £150 on 3rd June 2009.  Yes, it was ages ago and you can guess what happened!  Money was transfered straight from my account to his (a lesson painfully learnt!)  after numerous emails, phone calls, and getting a friend to go knock on his door ( I live in Kent) I'm afraid that I have to admit to giving up (was building a new house etc. etc.).  The lesson to be learnt is to do all the checks before parting with the dosh, and that cheaper is not always good.  At least I know I wasn't the only person had over by him which makes me feel a little better.
By Jaspersmum (**) [gb] Date 12.11.10 20:34 GMT
When I last looked, with a view to commencing legal proceedings, there were already a string of un-satisfied court orders outstanding for various ammounts of £150 upwards!  Decided it wasn't worth the effort to add another to his list.  Still feel very grieved by it though.  Suprised that he hasn't declared himself bankrupt TBH
