My wonderful 9 year old cavalier king charles dog has been diagnosed with Hepatocutaneous syndrome.I am hoping that someone out there has some ideas as to prolonging his life. His treatment is Hepatic food and steroid cream for the sores.Am I clinging on to him selfishly or can someone help?

sorry to hear this. hepatocutaneous syndrome is very rare, ive only ever seen one dog with it, a border collie a few years ago. she had been referred up to my place of work. as far as i can remember she came tp us for several months, but i'll be honest, i cant remember what happened to her, whether she recovered or was PTS :-( sorry. you really need to discuss all options with your vet, and depending on the severity of it, see what treatments are available. how is your dogs feet? can he walk?

Yes he can walk but it is painful for him.We originally went to to vets with sore pads last December and it only now that he has been diagnosed with the syndrome. We treat the pads with Synalar-N steroid cream on the vets advice. They say that the desease is terminal , but Jamie is so precious to me that I am just hoping against all hope that someone might know of an alternative treatment. I know what to do if he suffers to much but in the meantime continue to hope. So grateful for your interest.

I am so sorry to read that you dog is so unwell. I have googled the sydrome ou of interest  and wondered if you have considered alternative treatments, there is a reference on google to homeopathy being successful.  Only one reference unfortunately but maybe worth a look .
good luck

Thank you for your words of sympathy.Words cannot convey the grief we feel at his passing, but it is a comfort to know there are such nice people around who understand.

I am so sorry about Jamie
I wish I read your post sooner.  My dog also has hepatocutaneous syndrome and was diagnosed just over a year ago.
I do have lots of possible treatment ideas I could have offered... but they only slow this horriable horrible disease.
Please write to me I have been looking for any little ideas that may help my little Casey with this syndrome
I hope I do not upset you, I am just so sad and I'm sure you know what it feels like
Please email me @ gardengirl_val@yahoo.ca
Again I am so very sorry for your loss

Val
