My lovely gorgeous Westie Deefer fell asleep last night.
You gave me no warning Deefs I kissed your cheek yesterday and even made you Chicken Livers your favourite treat and watched you as you ran up the garden, something which you hadn't done for a while. I laughed and stroked you head as you waited for me on the back doorstep as I came in from the garden. I fed you you ate it and wagged your tail.
I had no idea it was your last day, I had no idea you would fall asleep when I wasn't there. A little bit of me died with you and I am so so heartbroken without your pawprints nearby.
I hope I did right by you, I hope I made up for the years wherever you were before I rescued you, I hope you can even give me a little sign to let me know you are ok, and free from your old age ailments.
You taught me so much, you were totally devoted to me and conforted me when my world fell apart and I went through my divorce. I miss you old man.
I just hope you know how much I loved you and missed you and I'd sacrifice everything to have just one more day with you. Life will never ever be the same without you.
You were there when I remarried in August so proud you were with your collar and bow tie. But I always knew that I was just borrowing you and one day God would want you back.
I miss my lovely gentle doggy, I miss the way you used to sleep devotedly on the floor by my bed, the way you never left my side, I would give anything just to have you back.
RIP Deefs, until we meet again..and we will, you are one in a million xxxx

So very sorry for your loss.  I had a special one, and I know how hard it is when they go.  When a special friend, is found in a dog, and they help you through the worst times of your life, you would give anything for that friend to be back.  He left you in body, but I am sure that he didnt leave you in soul.  He is running free at the bridge waiting for you to come and see him.  And when that happens, you will be together again.
I am sure he knows you love him, and that he was your life.  Cherish the memories, and give special thankyous to him because he made you into the person you are today.

I'm so so, sorry. There's nothing quite as hard as losing a pet this suddenly and unexpectedly, but at the same time, what a nice way to go -in is sleep after a nice day.

Just this side of Heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling to each other in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. To lose him quickly is such a shock but what a lovely way to go. He obviously paid you back well for rescuing him and saved you from 'the decision'.
