Previous Next Up Topic Other Boards / Foo / Going to New York for the weekend
By issysmum [gb] Date 14.08.02 16:23 GMT
Chris and I are hoping to go to new York for the weekend (assuming we can convince my parents to ahve the children) and we were after some advice.

Which would be better - booking a city break including flights, or booking the hotel and flights separately?

Can anyone recommend any good hotels in New York City itself?

Thanks,

Fiona

I'm sure there'll be lots of other questions when I think of them :D :D :D

Hi Fiona,

It depends sometimes you can pick up good weekend deals but I would suspect best to book them seperatly but check them both out and see what fairs best.

Sara should be able maybe to tell you of a US site that is like our tourist board which would recommend and rate good hotels.

Fiona ...a pal of mine at work went on a w/end break and did everything inclusive...just to ad....if you see Josh Hartnett, David Boreanz, Keanu Reeves, say hi from natasha in Jersey !!! :D :D :D :D

Or if you can fit either of them in your suitcase, just bring them back !!!!

Natasha that will work quite well because if I go in her case and then don't come back Fiona may have room for 2 off them.

Gee, thanks Pam for putting me on the spot like that (heavy on the sarcasm) ;-) :D :D :D :D

When I live in the US, I subscribe to AAA (American Automobile Association). It's similar to AA in the UK. I know that AAA does have a recipricle agreement with ADAC, the German auto club, so it might also do the same with AA. You might like to check with AA to see if there are any specials running through the time period you want to do. Package deals could be better in the long run just due to less paperwork and knowing the costs up front.

I know that NYC is still trying to build up its tourism industry in the wake of 11 Sept. + the bust of the economy bubble. So you should be able to find some really good package sales. I just don't know any specifics, sorry. I always stay with my in-laws in southern New Jersey, so no one in the family knows anything about accomodations. Sorry.
Here are some websites that might help you out.
NYC Official Tourist site
Visitor's Consumer Tips
worldwide lodging guide -- there's even a link from here for bidding on accomodations
Search 4 travel aids lots of travel related links....very helpful.

good luck Fiona.
Toodles cool

Hi Fiona, wow sounds fantastic! Last year I had a couple of nights stay in Boston after attending the Summer National in New England. I got a great deal, saving over $100 per night at the Sheraton, using the following :

There are loads of cheap flights around at the moment, and I know that BA were doing cheap upgrades too, on some of the Transatlantic flights.

How about going in luxury - the QE2 sails from Southampton on Tuesday!
~sigh~ .....I wish...... :-)
By eoghania [de] Date 15.08.02 19:14 GMT
Love to buy a ticket for the return trip on QE2 for my mother in law..... She hates to fly and has a serious phobia of crashing over water. It's not the death part that bothers her. It's the nonrecovery of her body and leaving it for the fishies and the crabs to eat :-( :-( But she encourages us to go fly to visit her  No luck on her part, yet :D :D

Would the fisshies and the crabs like the tase?:-)

Southampton & the docks is litterally a few miles down the road for me.
I'd love to go on the QE2 - Californian Uncle and cousin came across
the Atlantic & back a few times on that liner + flew Concorde. They said
it was great.
I've not cruised with Cunard but have been with P & O and Princess cruises.

Hope you get to go Fiona - will Holly go to kennels?

Pam

Fiona I missed seeing you on Monday at Bournemouth - I didn't get there until 1 p.m. though.
