ronnie was one of 2 shih tzu brothers my mum got from battersea dogs home, his brother reggie passed away about 5 years ago.just last week he suddenly went off his back legs and started being incontinent and howling for no reason.we took him to the vet who said he was unaware of anything and that at his age ,as it would mean fixing several problems it would be better to let him go..we held him as the jab went in and although he already seemed dead behind the eyes its some comfort that we were all there at the time.he loved all the grand children and great grandchildren and was my mums constant companion.she misses him deeply and ive told her if in the future she feels like another rescue dog we will talk about whats right for her.a sweet little dog who was my mums protector ,confidant and best friend.x

thank-you all for the kind words,my mum is still forgetting hes gone at times,i.e in the morning,at meal times etc but ive told her it will be like that for a while,i had my first dog fen put to sleep of old age the week 9/11 happened and that made it even more traumatic! i think my mum may want another rescue as she lives alone and i think she loved the company of them, especially at night. roy.

What a sad time. Your poor mum. She must feel Ronnie's loss deeply especially as she lives alone. It's lovely that you can help her with having another dog in time.
Run free Ronnie.
