Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Salmon and Potato food sold at JTF?
By luvhandles (****) [gb] Date 23.05.09 12:20 GMT
I just wondered if anyone goes to a JTF wholesalers and if they have come across the salmon and potato dog food that they sell? I was in there the other day and glanced at the food but didn't take too much notice because it was in a clear bag with a plain label on the front so I don't know who makes it. The ingredients looked ok if I remember rightly but then I'm no expert. Has anyone come across this food? If not, I will jot the ingredients off the packaging down the next time I go.

I think by law it needs to say where it was produced too- so check packaging for this when you have a look for ingredients

Wafcol do one, you'll find it on petplanet.  I'm looking at it for my mum's dogs.  Many pet shops will buy in bulk and split the bag into smaller bags, giving themselves a slightly bigger margin of profit.

I've been in JTF today and bought a bag of the Salmon and Potato food so that I can post the ingredients for one of the 'experts'  ;-)  to perhaps give me an opinion.

Its label reads Food 4 pets premium salmon and potato and states that its manufactured and packed in the UK.
Ingredients : Fresh Salmon (min 26%), Potato (min 26%), Oats, maize, salmon meal, beet pulp, refined poultry fat, salmon oil, minerals, vitamins.

Typical Analysis:
Protein        21%
Oil               10%
Fibre            3.5%
Ash              6%
Vit A             10,000 iu/Kg
Vit D             1,500 iu/Kg
Vit E              80 iu/Kg (as alpha tocopherol)
Copper          16 mg/Kg (as copper sulphate)

Does this sound ok? Its worked out at roughly £4.50 for 2.5kg inc VAT

Comparing it to one of the famous Fish brands
Cod 30.5%
Potato 30.5%
Herring Meal 21.4%
Salmon Oil 7.6%
Beet Fibre 6.4%
Brewers Yeast 2.1%
Minerals 0.8%
Vitamins 0.7%
It looks to have some extras added like Oats and Maize but I don't think that would worry me too much.
