Yesterday on our way to work me and mum witnessed a cat run over by the car infront.  Cat just ran out onto the road and nothing could have been done but person infront didn't stop  Mum stopped the car so I could jump out and make sure cat was dead and not suffering and get it out the middle of the road onto the pavement so it didn't become squashed :-(  Poor thing was killed straight away but it had a collar and tag on with phone number :-(  Without thinking I grabbed my phone and dialed the number, then relised I had no idea on what to say :-(  How do you tell someone their cat is now dead?  I just ended up coming straight out with it, don't think the most tackful way but no idea if there is a right way.  Told them where their cat was and had to leave as couldn't face the owner as i was welling up :-(

Why don't people stop if they hit someones pet?

So far this year I have reunited 3 dogs off the roads to their owners and told one person bout the cat, last year one of our dogs got out and was knocked over on the road, no-one stopped for her but if she had of got medical treatment immediatly she might have been  saved...you just never know.

Just seems I'm saving everyone elses animals this year I think I should apply for a dog warden post!

RIP little Tabitha.

What a kind thing to do, I'm sure there is no thing worse than not knowing.

This happened to my OH a couple of months back, a cat just dashed in front of him and he hit it. The poor thing was still alive so he rang the RSPCA but they said it would take over an hour to send someone and to just leave it there till they could get to it!  Luckily he knew the area and took it to the closest vet but the poor thing didn't make it. The vet traced the owner through the microchip and they were just sooo grateful that OH had cared enough to try and save him.

RIP Tabitha, you now can go home thanks to this random act of kindness.

You do sometimes wonder, don't you? One of my cats was missing for 3 days before the milkman said he'd seen a cat's body just up the dual carriageway from us. I'd already looked, but hadn't seen her as it was further up than I expected her to go. It was my cat's remains :-( A couple of years later I saw a dead cat at the side of the road and stopped at the next house up the road. The people had moved to the countryside because they wanted to give the cat a better life. They were very grateful for me stopping.

RIP little Tabitha.
I've gone out of my way to help a dead cat too. If nothing could be done to save an animal then the least you would want as its owners is to know whats happened and where it is.

It's awful to see an animal killed.  It happened to me last year but this cat was in the road and the car coming towards me just ran straight into it and didn't stop.  Didn't even slow up.  Poor thing didn't stand a chance but I wished many many awful things to happen to that heartless driver.  It upset me for days as I too have lost many precious cats on the roads which is why I don't keep them anymore and this one was my favourite breed of all a siamese.  Managed to find the owners though.  RIP little tabitha.

Not nice for you & your mum, hope you're not too shaken up by it.

I had to do something similar last year, on the way back from a show (dropping my mum's car back) just turning into my parents road & I saw a cat, it looked as though it was playing a strange game as it was twisting & turning.  I backed up & jumped out the car.  It had obviously been hit by a car & was in death throes.  My poor passenger had to hold it wrapped in a towel as we took it off to the vets.  Think it was dead on arrival, but at least my parent's neighbours knew what had happened to their beloved cat.

I have to say, whenever I report an animal I always wonder if people think it was me who hit it in the first place.  As far as I'm aware I've only ever hit a pigeon & it broke my aerial & flew off.

We hit a cat once on a Sunday evening. The Vet opened up for us. We were waiting for the Vet in the Vets car park and as he drove in, the cat stretched and then died. The Vet said it had broken its back. Unfortunately it wasn't chipped and therefore we couldn't trace the owner.
The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

good for you for telling the owner...hard to do but there is nothing worse than never knowing what happened!

I had 3 of my cats hit by a car the week before christmas on three consecutive years!!!
The first 2 were killed and the third made her way home and had head trauma and a broken jaw but she survived an operation and is still here today, it was her brother and her mum that i lost.

Once my cats are gone i wont be having anymore...to heartbreaking :-(
Bella & Abbey....my beautiful girls, i miss u both so much everyday
