I have just found a small lump under my older girls armpit.It is next to the ribcage rather than on her arm if that makes sense.It feels like half a pea under the skin and is about that size. it does move a bit a bit when I fiddle with it. Obviously will take her to the vet tomorrow but is it likely to be anything sinister? She is 9 soon. I am panicking a bit.

my mums retriever who is 11 has a lump under her armpit, it has been there for about 18 months now, it is very soft and is just a fatty lump, it does change in size a little to from week to week, has been checked out and as she is 11 it will be left alone unless it causes her problems which it doesnt.

I am sure it is just a a grisle lump but best to get it looked at as you say.

My boxer has had numerous small lumps, it's always a bit scary when you find one but doesn't mean it's anything to worry about.
The first two lumps were removed and tested but they didn't turn out to be a cancer and since then the vets just monitors any lumps i find and if they don't get bigger and arn't worrying my dog he leaves them alone. He has a couple at the moment but there on elbow joints so not easy to remove and havn't got any bigger so the vet is happy it's nothing to worry about.
Your right to get it checked out but don't loose sleep over it as most lumps are nothing more than fatty lumps or cysts. If the vet is in any double they will remove it and my dog was fine straight after his operations. think he only had a couple of stitches and they were the ones that disolve .

thanks for the reassurance. Why do these things happen when the vet is closed?

update: vet said he didn't think it was anything to be concerned about. Will monitor for a week or two to see if it grows.
