i am looking for a flat coat retriever bitch pup, we lost ours earlier this year ,she was 14 and we are desperate for another, she was originally my mums dog and we inherited her when my mum died ,i am in westyorkshire but have been unable to find any breeders that may have any litters in our area or nearby areas (yorkshire north, south, east or derbyshire area)

Have you searched the Champdogs Breeders section? There are 2 litters on there at the moment. Just click on the Breeders bit at the top of the page and follow the instructions.
Life is not a bed of roses but a comedy of errors

The best person to contact would be Shirley Johnson the litter recorder for the Flatcoat Society. To be on her books both parents would need to be hip scored as well as having been eye tested. her contact details can be found here

I would like to correct the former statement made by Polly and state that the litter in South Yorkshire advertised on the KC Website is NOT on the FCRS litter book run by Shirley Johnson. I should also state that it is NOT mandatory to put one's litter on the Society book, but those doing so have to abide by the Society Code of Ethics in so far as all health testing is concerned. I am not saying that this litter does not comply, I am just saying that whereas the KC do not make it mandatory for breeders to comply with the breed's code of ethics the Society does.
Becky
Just for future interest is the society code of ethics more stringent than that required by the KC. I must add I did go through shirley litter book years ago to find a flatti and as some know had the most fantastic pup for our family.

The Simple answer is yes. The KC list that the dogs be hip scored and tested for Glucoma but this is not essential and they will register/advertise litters from untested parents. The Societys code of ethis state that this must be done - and also the dogs should routinely be tested for PRA/HC - they will not be accepted onto the litter register unless the parents have had the required tests done.
Thanks thats useful info.

Hi Becky,
I was told by a lady who rang me for some help with training that she her friend had contacted your Mum and that the above mentiond litter was the only one in Yorkshire on her books.
However I would not recommend anyone considering buying a pup to search on the internet I always tell them to contact your Mum.
