I fed BARF about 3 years ago to my two Irish boys, both did well on it.  Unfortunately Alfie did a little too well on it and I just couldnt keep his weight down, and then Fagan was diagnosed as being slightly intollerant to chicken so I gave up and put them on Burns !!  Both have done well on Burns (mixed with AMP) but I really would like to put them back on BARF, especially since Fagan was operated on for Torsion.

I used to use landywoods and never had a problem with them, they still seem the cheapest.  As Fagan cant have chicken and was never keen on going to the effort of crunching bones do you think the meat containing bone would provide enough bone for him? I was thinking of getting him some lamb ribs in the hope he may now like bones.  I also used to buy the cheap bones from morrisons, are these classed as rmb's?

Does anyone have any tips on keeping the weight off of Alfie? what meats are leaner (I dont really want to buy an chicken as Fagan cant have it)

And ive been sat here wracking my brains trying to think how much should be fed, is it 3% of body weight?

Thanks

Claire

my butcher sells lamb necks with ribs attached for about 50p each.  there is still quite a bit of meat on them and the dogs love them.

my local butcher doesnt do his own "butchering" so doesnt often have stuff like that but we do have a farm shop I may go and check out today.

can't help on suppliers as I get all my meat from our local butcher, but can help advise on the weight problem, I have 2 dogs both on barf one is entire and one castrated and my castrated boy seems to put weight on by just looking at food, so although I never used to weigh the portions for them I do now as it is so easy to feed too much.  So my 2 tips are:

1) weigh food at each meal
2) cut down on the meat/bones and increase the ratio of veg/fruit - this has worked for Henry
