Somebody please explain why my dog does this, he will eat pooh, and gets quite upset if I try and stop him, he also eats grass he has always  done this, it dosen't make him sick he just poohs it out and it looks just the same out as it did going in. and the other thing he does if I have people come to the house, he never jumps just sticks his nose straight into the groin!!!!! if its not the groin its the bottom. somebody p[lease enlighten me.

He's a dog !, we smell lovely to dogs in that area just watch him sniff canine bums its the way they greet each other gives a dog info about another dog or person.we shake hands.
As for the poo eating another common dog habit, reason seem to be unclear, could just be a habit  he has acquired some people find a change of food helps ( I didn't ) and some say it is a shortage of something in their diet again I never sorted it with my gsd but she was particular about whoose poo usually horse cat and occasionally dog otherwise she prefered to roll lol

Grass eating I always put down to an uncomfortable tummy or feeling sick and thenthey are often sick afterwards. See what others think they may have some ideas for you.

Meanwhile i think groin sniffing is marinally easier to deal with than a large bouncy dog lol

i think they eat poo because it's something that dogs or wild dogs would of done years ago to get the last bit of nutrition from it.
A lot of dogs eat grass, some it helps settle an upset tummy and makes them sick. a natural remedy  i suppose, one of my dogs eats it for this reason but my other two just enjoy eating it and are never sick.
as for sniffing people in there privates thats just a dog doing what dogs do to other dogs when they meet. it's all part of social behaviour for dogs and a polite thing to do when you greet. their not trying to be rude but thats how they recognise other dogs and people. if you've got more than one dog your notice when they have been apart from each other they always greet and have a good sniff to check everything is the same. maybe a bit more to it than that and i'm sure someone else will be able to give more details about it but hope that helps a bit.

My dog frequently eats grass, if it doesnt make him sick it must settle his tum as he always seems better in himself afterwards.
As for eating poo it is something that some dogs do. If he is eating his own poo you can use pineapple juice in their food which makes them not like the smell of their poo & stop eating it. If your dog is eating poo when you are out then improve your recall and you can call him back away from the faeces and praise him with a treat and a fuss, or keep him on the lead so you can avoid the area.
Same for jumping up and sniffing people. It is only their way of greeting people but is embarrasing for both you as the owner and the person getting a sniff :-)  Again, why not put him on the lead when people enter the house, keep him away from the person and maybe in a sit or a down stay. Give him praise and a reward for not going near them.

I sometimes wonder with my Spanish whether I have dogs or a herd of cattle, they are always chewing the grass, it drives me barmy but they just love it and are never sick with it.  Lucky on the poo front really and the smelling of groins well that's just dogs for you if they are of a certain size :-)
If I wanted a Poodle, OES, TT or IWS I would have bought one. SWD's shd. be natural and rustic. No

Just being a dog!
My two love a good graze, they generally have a good munch an hour before their evening meal as a snack.  And both dive into cat poo.  If the cats fed on tinned food the poo is still quite meaty.  My two race each other round the field visiting the local cats toilet spots.  (thay know all of them)  Once the sweep is done its back to mum for a big kiss- ewww!

I think I need to book mark this thread and come back to it whenever I get back from the park in a bad mood cause it's made me giggle!

My choc lab has always been a park pigger...if there is discarded food then any old doo-doo will do! Sadly after four years of living with us my rescue lab has now started doing it too (she previously just used to prefer to roll in sticky fox poo!). I've given up trying to chase them away from it, they run rings round me...a fellow dog walker helpfully suggested filling a plastic bottle with pebbles and throwing it at the dogs to stop them, however it would take an olympian to achieve that as they can sniff the stuff out from record distances!!

I just can't in my heart of hearts let them carry on regardless and eat it, but the alternative is to always have them on the lead. Of course, I wouldn't have the problem with the dog doo in the first place if people picked up after their hounds!! So what do I do, just make sure I worm them regularly? Anything else I need to be wary off (apart from doggie kisses - yuk!)

Dogs, don't you just love em!

I think its so funny when my Fidel meets other dogs. He wags his tail, then shoves his bum in their face, like he's sayin "nice to meet you, want a sniff of this?" Lol!

They are very basic are dogs!  Just imagine if us humans sniffed each other's privates as soon as we met!

Years ago we had a border collie and as soon as ps were in the hous the nose would hone in on "the spot" especially men! Most embarrassing.  Nowadays my dogs are a bit small so not such a problem!

Had to laugh at that one!  :-)

Years ago I read about a couple in bed, they heard the post arrive, and the hubby rushed down to pick the post off the mat.  He was nude, but no problem, he was going straight back upstairs.

Their GSD wandered out of the kitchen, and,,,   you guessed it!  Stuck his wet nose up hubby's bare bum.  The shock made him jump, and shot him straight through the glass in the door!   I know it must have been awful, but I couldn't stop laughing!  ;-)
The hurrier I go - the behinder I get!

It always makes me laugh if one of my dogs has been somewhere without the others... the way they all gather round and take it in turns to sniff the returning dogs privates. I always joke that they are trying to suss out where they've been ... "Hmm that smells like the park to me...." Ha ha. :-)
Nothing further to add to the OP's questions, I think everyone has pretty much covered it lol.

The dogs all went to a party
They can from far and near
Some came by aeroplane and some came by car
And once inside the city walls they were allowed to look
Each doggie had to hang his bottom up upon a hook
And when they all were seated each mother son and sire
A silly blighter present loudly shouted fire
And in the panic which ensued they didn't stop to look
But grabbed any bodies bottom from any bodies hook
So that is why when a doggie leaves its masters home
Smells another doggies bottom to see if its his own!!!
