Right i'm on a mission now just to try and save a few pennies these next few months.

I do feed a general raw food diet but its supplemented with complete. I currently have both my dogs on Orijen, which they love and have no issues with except the price(right now).
What i am trying to find is a complete which is similar to Orijen in its ingredients but lower in cost, i've looked at the likes of Wafcol but that is only a few £'s cheaper, so no great saving, so that wouldn't be worth it.

I have found in some brands adult foods which are grain free but not the puppy foods and i would be looking for one which caters for large breed puppies as well..

Oh and i have a very very fussy adult who doesn't care for a complete unless it smells really fishy.. Maybe i'm on a loosing battle and should leave their food as it is.

where do you buy it from?  I was directed by someone on here to http://www.berriewoodwholesale.co.uk/cgi-bin/sitewise.pl as being the cheapest place to get it from. 

My dog looks great on orijen and downgrading his food isn't something I am willing to do, as there are other ways I can make sacrafices (giving up chocolate and takeaways sob sob..) but if anyone has a source of orijen cheaper than this I would be delighted to hear.

Do you belong to the Orijen Breeder's scheme? You can get 20kg bags (adult variety) through that which work out a bit cheaper. How much are you paying at the moment? Where in the country are you?

I am on the breeders scheme and even then its still expensive right at this moment in time.
Have the adult on the fish one and the puppy on large breed puppy.
I don;t know maybe i'll have to rethink that idea and do cut backs elsewhere..

I used to feed Orijen, but changed to Fish 4 Dogs, as did my friend. All our dogs absolutely love the Fish 4 Dogs and are thriving on it. At shows you can pick up a 15 kg bag for between £20 - £25, or if we buy mailorder (6 bags) we pay around £29 a bag delivered.

Taste of the wild? I dont know how much it is though, but I know its good food

Could you not just increase the amount of raw you feed?

I feed the same way as you (I think?), raw but supplemented with Orijen. My lot also get the occasional pack of Naturediet. I really do believe Orijen is the best dry complete on the market and I wouldn't change to something else, I just feel it would be a false economy as very little Orijen needs feeding. How much do you go through a month? Would you really save that much by changing to another premium brand? If you change to a cheapo version, would the dogs get the same nutritional benefits (or would they be creating a lot more waste)?

I think you are right, will have to increase the raw food and cut back on the amount of complete i give.

I would dearly love to feed Orijen, it's a brand I've always wanted to try with my two.( I used to get my Arden Grange from Berriewoods).

However, here in Australia, the cat food version of Orijen has been withdrawn from the market, and I haven't been able to find the canine variety anywhere.
The complete food out here is extortionate if you convert the $'s back to £'s!  For a 'superior' quality food I'm looking at around £50 for a 15kg bag!!!   Bit of a stickler at the moment what with being in a new country, trying to settle everyone in etc!

Perhaps that glass of wine too many that Goldiemad mentioned might be a good idea!! lol

hi TT, hope you are settling in ok in Australia.  If it is any consolation Orijen is approx £43 a bag for a 13.5kg bag so not much different to where you are.  Just out of curiousity are you finding your dogs eating less due to the heat?  My staff doesn't eat much when it is hot but not sure if she could sustain it permanantly.  Not an issue here given the lack of hot days lol

Hiya... thank you for asking... Well, getting there!  My 17 1/2 yr old son is struggling.. he's lovesick sadly(!)
That is a bit of consolation, but there are other complete foods which are classed here as 'superior', but for me personally they are not, and they're around that £50 price mark still. 
It would take something really major for either Tess or Alf to eat less or be off their food completely.  So far the heat doesn't seem to have made any difference.
However, heat wise it hasn't been that different to a good British Summer.  We're only just coming to the end of Winter here so the daytime temps have been between 23 and 25 degrees on average.  Yesterday was 35 degrees in the shade though, so I think Spring is on it's way, so their appetites might yet change!
