Hi

I've decided to get another dog to add to our family and after much discussion together we've decided upon a toy poodle, male, and hopefully he'll be apricot colour.

Before I start ringing around, are there any questions regarding the health checks I need to ask?  I've read about the RPA test so I'm assuming that would be top of the list. But if you can provide any others I'd be grateful as I want to get the healthiest pup I can.

Thank you
love

Hi - some breeders also check for Luxating Patella, as well as the optigen test (pra).   Check out your breeder very carefully and ask all the questions, regarding parents and their health.  Good luck in your search

Hi
I have 2 dark apricot male toy poodles aged 4 years and 3 years old when I decided to get them I spoke to my vet who advised me to go through the Kennel Club as the previous toy poodle I had suffered from collitis all his life. The lady I bought my 2 current poodles from is a show breeder and I think she has her dogs checked for I think its called GPRA which is an eye condition which affects poodles but if you look on the kennel club web site it tells you what health screening is usually done on poodles by reputable breeders. I have to say that I paid quite a lot for my two but feel it was worth it as so far they seem very healthy.

Hi thanks ttaylor, it's a healthy dog I want.  My current dog has a health problem right now which maybe or may not be genetic.  I'll probably never know but it broke my heart when he became ill.  Not to mention the on going vets bills I'm going to be paying!

Hi
I hope you find the poodle you are looking for, I had to go to Dorset for my two ( I live in west sussex ) so it was quite a trip but well worth it as they are both lovely little dogs.

Way hay, got him!  Chuffed to bits, he's got excellent pedigree pra testing goes back to granny and grandad so fingers crossed we got ourselves a healthy pup.  The price was extremely reasonable considering his pedigree and pra testing!  Plus I love him to bits even though he is white/cream x

Hi I'm glad you found the toy poodle you were looking for. Did you have to travel far to get him? as I said in my post I had to travel to Dorset from my home in West Sussex about 2 and a half hours but i certainly don't regret the trip it was well worth it for my two poodles. Have you decided on a name yet for him?

I managed to find him locally about half hour drive away.  I would have travelled a lot further, it was a healthy pup I wanted to have as it saves a lot of heartache later. sorry typing this while cwtching him.  His name is Louis a regal name for a poodle me thinks!
