We are thinking of adopting a dog who had puppy strangles when a young puppy.  He is now 16 months old and completely recovered, with a bit of scarring around his muzzle.  I don't know how long he was on the steroids but will find out.  My question is, if it is an autoimmune disease, will he be pre-disposed to other autoimmune conditions as he gets older?

When I was a child, we had a mini dachshund and she got strangles. She lived to be 11 with no further health issues, she had scarring around her head but in time it was hardly noticeable.

20 years ago I had a litter with strangles and one male pup was very badly affected. He went on to live to 15 a great age for a boxer.
