As a result of surgery I have had to change my dogs diet completely. She is now on Nature Diet which is a pate style food and no longer can have any dry food. She has been on this since Friday and fortunately likes it. Because of the surgery she is also on bed rest for two weeks!! The fact is that she seems to have stopped drinking!! Because I need to monitor her both eating and drinking I have been watching her like a hawk and she has hardly had anything to drink although it is freely available to her. She is still weeing so I guess she is getting hydrated from the food! Should I be worried?

Sue and Waggydog ( who should be in bed!!! )

She maybe getting enough fluid from the food but i would have a word with your vet just to check incase she needs a little more , you could try  syringing a little  water into her mouth  maybe with some electrolytes added
if all about lose their heads , have another glass of wine

i'd have a word with the vet first but try giving her some ice cubes to crunch up and play with, least then you know she's getting some water. my dogs love them.

Hi,when i changed my dogs to raw food from dry kibble they hardly drank anything as they were getting the moisture they needed from the diet although like you i was concerned at first.I know nature diet is a wet food so maybe it's the same. Not saying you shouldn't see a vet if you're concerned, just trying to put your mind at rest.

Hi,

You could add some water to the nature diet and mush it up to get a bit more liquid into her.

Thanks for all your tips, some I could try although the type of surgery she has had precludes the syringe which would be one of the best.
