Hi there My bitch has just come into season again 5 months after her first but the thing is she first came into season start of April got mated middle of April had a singleton end of June whom sadly died shortly after it was born but she is now back in season is this normal and am i ok to make her again as she only had the one and only survived a matter of hours ive been told that that puppy never took anything out her and it would be ok to mate her again just want some more advice.

There's bound to be others along shortly that know far more than I about breeding as I've never done it.

If I read your post correctly it sounds as though you had your bitch mated after her very first season    to me that means she must have been quite young, my two young ones seasoned at a year approx, although no doubt different breeds vary,  I feel that is too young to breed but I may be wrong and others will correct me.

Even though the singleton did not survive I find it hard to believe that this did not put any strain on your girls health and I would walk the  path of caution

If I were you I would give the girl a break and let her cycle settle and let her mature a bit.

I assume that you have of course had all of the required health screening done for your breed. 

I hope you get the info you are looking for and that your girl is doing well.

No my bitch didn't come into season till she was 2 years old . as i say she only had a singleton witch only survived for about 3 hours and she was and has been fine ever since went out a walk the very next day like nothing had happened.

she is now coming up for 3 years now and i don't want to leave it until her next season to mate her as she has had a couple silent seasons and might end up to old to mate.

and also my bitch has had her eyes , hips and elbows done along with the stud dog

Then you have your answer, with previous irregular/untypical seasons you may be best to go ahead now, she hasn't reared the pup so will have had plenty of time to get over the actual pregnancy.

You may want to consider if a bitch like this is a breeding candidate.  Have there been fertility issues and similar problems of atypical seasons with her female ancestors?

You don't want to inadvertently end up with a lien of bitches that can't breed.

No there isn't any fertility problems i think she was mated a day to early on her first proper season hence the one puppy

but I think im going to go ahead as I don't want to start breeding her for the first time after 3 as i think its a little to old to start

See how easy it is to get the wrong end of the stick   you implied that this current season was following only 5 months after the first with a pregnancy in between, and not that your girl is approaching 3yrs.

You say your girl has had her hips eyes and elbows done along with the stud, does that mean you also own the stud?

One thing many other's are bound to ask you is 'what is you incentive to breed?'

No I don't own the stud dog

Both Bitch and Dog are great show dogs and have done really well over the last couple years at shows and they really suit each other and the reason I am breeding her is that I would love to have a puppy off of  her. I'm not interested in making money just breeding quality puppies that is all.

That's good and I hope I didn't imply that you were

So, going back to the health of your girl, I would say and again this is from someone who has never bred, that she needs time to recover.

As I speak through lack of knowledge on breeding I hope that those who know more come along shortly and advise you.

There is no reason healthwise, why your girl shouldn't be mated again this season. Since she's of an apropriate age, and she's not been burdened by a large litter the last time, she should be fine.
Five months between seasons is on the shorter side, but within the normal variation.  I understand the reason you want to breed is to have a bitch pup to keep, for showing and maybe breeding. What Brainless said in an earlier post is a thing to be considered. A bitch with silent seasons isn't the best bitch to keep a bitch pup from,for breeding. Or to breed from at all, really. We want our dogs to pass on their own good fertility.

If you decide to mate your girl again this time, it might be a good idea to have a progesterone test done.

I go with Barbara's advice.  I would mate her.  It is not the carrying of one single puppy that wears a bitch out.  It is the actual rearing of a huge litter. 

If it was a bitch of my own, I would be far more cautious about leaving her until the next season.  What if it's another year?  If you know in your heart that your girl is in fine fettle - I say go for it.  Your bitch has already had time to "recover" from carrying one puppy.

I'm in the same situation -bitch had two stillborn pups after being mated last season (first litter) and I'm going to mate her the next season again after speaking to knowledgeable people in the breed and taking their advice on what is best for the bitch. Mine too is 3 years old so I'd rather not wait another year -and as it is she is currently late coming into season.
