Hi all, Expect you remember my post about the house fly look alikes that keep biting the dogs and us? I found a site where you can "ask an entomologist" and I have now been told they are Horn flies! So now we know exactly what the little beggers are, does anyone know a repellent for them.....PLEASE!!!!!

Hi Phil
Don't know if it will help, but, when we were staying with Louise for Leeds she was spraying the dogs with *Citronella* (not sure of spelling) diluted with water. Seemed to keep the flies away and it smelt nice too! :D

I read somewhere that citronella in excessive amounts can make dogs skin very sensitive to sunlight ... will look this up again if I can find it and put the info on.

Citronella is an excellent insect repellent, so the right balance would be all that's needed hopefully

I have a bottle of stock nutritions dyna-mite
you can use it on yourself and the dogs.
I rub it in directly on their coats they dont mind it and
it seems to work and they love the massage :-)
also in todays dog paper they mention adding some to your mop bucket,it helps keep flies out.
An empty vessel makes the most noise. :-)
