my terrier/jack russell puppy chases,the kitten  has on ocassion had the cats whole head in mouth, tries to pull kitten like he was her puppy ,wont let play takes toys ,is getting less dominate and aggressive ,but im exhausted keeping apart.they play fight and kiss cuddle and sleep together sometimes.its like a light goes on and she has to go.
was thinking about achmien method ,any suggestion tried treats saying leave ,naughty girl etc.removing doesnt work she gets more aggresssive with kitten .i love her dearly but !!
any suggestions gratefully recieved

Separate them!   You don't say what age the kitten is - but from what I understand, your puppy is playing with the kitten as if it were a puppy - which it isn't.

If you allow this situation to continue, I can foresee disaster.   And no, Amichien will not be the answer here - or in any training of your puppy at all, imo.

If you feel exhausted and cannot keep them separated, then I would seriously advocate re-homing the kitten.

i agree with the other post, i think this is an accident waiting to happen and would think very carefully about rehoming one of them.
i know it's not what you want to here but it must be very stressful for the kitten when the pup gets over excited.
please keep them apart until you decide what to do, i don't see this being sorted out very easily.

As everyone has said, seperate the two of them.

You can't expect a puppy to understand that he/she must not chase the kitten and play rough like it would its litter mates.

You should make sure the kitten has a safe place to sleep and rest away from the puppy and make sure they are never left together.  As they grow older they should settle well together - we have 7 dogs and 6 cats and they are all ok together but the dogs have never been allowed to be anything but gentle and again I wouldn't leave a kitten and puppy together alone.

Was this one of those "if I buy a puppy and a kitten, they will grow up to be bestest friends"? Terrier and a cat not such a great idea anyway with the unexperienced. Where's the thread where the border killed the kitten? Please be responsible I wouldn't like to see either of them hurt because of your actions. Yes your actions, because the pup doesn't know any better

It was my thread, it happened not because we are unexperienced or thought that it would be cute to buy a kitten to see them cuddle up together. We had looked into it for a while, and had judged all of our dogs reactions towards cats over a period of time.

Once we realised that our Border was far too obsessed with the kitten for things to ever settle down (after keeping them seperate with secure supervised interaction several times a day) we decided that we would need to rehome the kitten. The day after making this decision and putting him up for rehoming the kitten escaped downstairs whilst I was hoovering upstairs (so couldn't hear the commotion) and Dougie shook him to death.

I know it is probably not what you want to hear but I really do think that you should rehome the kitten, even if they are kept seperate what happened to me can still happened, kittens are inquisitive and will want to explore.  This happened to me in June and still haunts me, guilt is not a pleasant emotion

I apologise if you thought i meant you were unexperienced, that wasn't my intention (i didnt mean you at all) . The OP maybe inexperienced because she/he wasn't aware that a puppy and a kitten together isn't a great idea. Fragile tiny kitten, big bolshy, untrained puppy, thats used to littermates etc etc

I have just got a kitten myself and i have 3 dogs that don't like cats, however they are and have been since day one well socialised with my other small furries (rats, degus and Rockafella Rabbit). Plus they have a very low prey drive, unlike your Border. The day we got him, i was very protective, but after a few days they settled down. The dogs do like to watch him, and he stays away when they are having a rough and tumble. We shut him in the bedroom when we go out and hes not frightened of them whatsoever now, hes actually quite cocky. Boxing them in the face and chasing tails. The rabbit chases him out of his hutch. My pup is 6 months old and shes reasonably well behaved, she can still get abit carried away when playing with him so i have to supervise, she pawed him the other day as she doesnt realise the size difference. She will learn and he will grow, give her a swipe if she hurts him too.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments though to the OP, I wouldn't want anyone to go through what me and my OH went through, not only is there the intense guilt towards the kitten, it also changes the way you feel towards the offending dog, I really couldn't look at Dougie for a while afterwards, and actually did find a new home for him, but I bottled out at the last minute and relations are fine between us now, but it was difficult for a while
