Warning - Slug Pellets *

Farmers everyehere are scattering slug pellets on their fields, headlands and pathways.   Dog owners should be aware that slug pellets are very palatable to dogs, and that they can have disastrous consequences, including convulsions, coma, and fatalities.

Please be careful when walking your dog in areas where they may find stray slug pellets!

Thanks for the warning!  My gardener husband has pointed out that your dog would have to consume quite a considerable number for it have any significant effect (obviously depending on how small the dog is) - for example, if there was a huge heap of them in one spot and the dog hoovered up the lot, that could be a problem.

The odd one shouldn't be fatal, although obviously they are best not consumed at all!

I use slug pellets in my tiny garden, as the blighters are rife around here.....Nellie has been known to lick up pellets and weedkiller in her time, neither with any major effects, thank goodness.......crazy mutt :-)

My sister in law lost her cat 2 years ago after it ate some slug pellets, and by all accounts it was a very nasty way for the cat to go and the vets did all they could to save him.
I'm upsetting the planet one person at a time !!!!!!

Your dog may not suffer any long term effects from eating slug pellets but hedgehogs do.  I know this is a doggy forum but as a carer for sick spiney creatures you should know that hedgehogs eat slug pellets (and infected slugs) and they die a very slow and painful death.  Their nervous system fails, they shake uncontrollably, cannot eat or drink it is horrible to witness, and in my experience is their biggest killer.

Slug pellets should be banned. There is something horribly cynical about marketing a product as 'safe' for pets and wild animals when it clearly isn't.
OK, so the cream carpets were a bad idea
