How many of you have a soft dog crate from Spendidpets. And what are your thoughts on them
I didn't buy my soft crate from there but I would never buy one again. The zips are rubbish. The crate cost almost £35 and lasted almost 3 weeks. Total waste of money.

i have a soft one but for some reason my dog hates it, so it was a waste of money for me. she could scratch open the zips aswell.
it wasnt from splendipets though.
Hi, I didn't buy mine from Splendidpets but I've had a look at their site and mine is like
this one. Lightweight, pop-up, with blackout flaps
I've been very pleased with it, the crate is simple to put up, is easy to carry and store and my dogs are fine in it. I generally use it for the youngest dog when we stay away with him for showing but I've used it a lot on holiday too. It's a great way to prevent him from bed surfing when we are all sleeping in one room. Sadly it doesn't cut out the sound of him snoring!
Maybe it all depends on your dog but, as neither of mine would dream of trying to find a way out of it, we've had no difficulty with zips either, although we sometimes see a paw pushed against the side when he is sleeping... HTH

I bought one at crufts for my male GSD, lasted 20 minutes if thet he ripped the zip off, cost me £45 too, would never buy another one

we have a croft one which rumble our ddb sleeps in,so is huge(in fact i could get in with him!) and used to take it to shows when we showed him.now its just left open all the time at home and all the dogs like it.its now 3 years old and still in good nick.more costly than some but tough fabric.
champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends..
Ours are from the doghealth.co.uk I think, though I also have a small Croft one, which I like apart from it being a tiny bit of a pain having a separately case instead of the crate being it's own case. But the doghealth ones have poles which are a little annoying to fiddle with, so it's swings and roundabouts. Still better than having hubby whinge about the rattling of the metal ones though!

My first soft crate was the canine camper, one that just zipped up at each end, and someone kindly lent on it at a show which snapped the wire and the end caved in. My 2nd one was a croft one which worked the same and all the dog did was move inside it and the wire bent and the side kept caving in. The ones I have now are great, I bought them from American Pet Products (who I would never do business with again but thats another story !!) they have the poles in the top which easily just pop in. They are really sturdy, I have the giant size which fits both my boys in (although they do have one each !!)
finally got my 5th silver 7 ..... 2 and a half stone off, only 8lbs to goal ... bring it on !

On a more positive note I have two, a large 42 inch Light N easy one (the one with the two poles) and a 36 inch stronger but heavier framed one.
The first one I have had for 7 years and the other must be about four or five.
What must be remembered is they are only suitable for dogs already used to being crated and generally should not be sued where they are out of your sight or not contained say in a hotel room, would not leave a pup that still chews in one at all unless being watched while I had a drink or some lunch.
They are wonderful for being so light and portable, but have limitations.
I can get four of mine in the big one and two or three at a push in the smaller.
Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails.

I have 3 soft crates, medium, large & extra large, not from S.P but from the other guy.
They are brilliant for my boy, I use a different size depending on how I am travelling.
I started using it in the house and had it open for mine to pop in and out of in the lounge and thats how they got use to them and I use it for puppy at night next to my bed.
Dogs are like chocolates, you can't have just one!

I got the £30 24" one.
Very pleased with it.

I've got two, not by the company mentioned and Anton got through then in 2 secnds flat!
My dogs aren't my whole life, but my life wouldn't be whole without them. 05/01/08 11 stone 12 lbs
I have 3 from that company and have found them very good, i also have a metal cage for a girl that can and dose get out of them.
She has a canine camper that she distroyed.
I have tried 2 other makes and find the splendid pets the best of the lot.
i have the 20" heavy duty fabric soft crate from splendid pets - i think its great i got it at windsor this year and had no problems with it
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog thinks I am.
got mine from them at Richmond and one week later the side sliders that pop in and hold it all up snapped ( dog lent on it ) oh mended it but i wouldnt buy another one from them.
respect those whos views differ from your own
Dont have one from splendipets but do have a soft crate. My dogs have broken all wires but we replaced them with plastic garden sticks and tiewires! not had a problem since. We only use ours for our spinone and labradors but they could easily chew through it if they wanted to. but it is so light to carry I wouldn't be without it.
> Spendidpets. And what are your thoughts on them
We didn't get our crates from them. But we did try to buy dirt trapper mats last year. To cut a long story short, they didn't arrive and we were repeatedly lied to. We ended up instigating small claims court proceedings against them at which point they caved in and sent our mats plus a couple of free ones. But I'd never buy anything from them again.
Must mention on this subject about my experience this weekend. It was our first time with the caravan for South Wales, so I took the soft dog crate for the awning. First night I awoke to load clattering of dog bowls in the awning.
Slipped on wellies and shot out the door, to find the lab by the awning door only too pleased to see me, but no spinone! On thinking of were we had walked in the afternoon I headed to the lake, just before she leapt in. thank god I had my trusted dog whistle! Maybe I will take the metal cage next time, after all sharing a bed in a small caravan with 2 big snoring dogs not a great night of sleep.
> one week later the side sliders that pop in and hold it all up snapped
Snap !
AND my smallest most petite little cavalier openened the zipped doors in seconds and bogged off...... but she gets out of most things.

I share my little 10' caravan with three retrievers- one of whom snores for England!! I just pull the duvet over my head.

I'm probably a bit paranoid, but would worry about leaving them in the awning, crated or not.
We were on a really great site, not the one at the showground. I have no concerns over leaving them in the awning on this site elsewhere maybe not.
