Am i right in thinking, if you have a puppy bitch at a champ show and she is the only puppy bitch there. But there are 3 puppy dogs entered and she beats the winning puppy dog for BPIB, she still doesn't get any JW warrant points?

Unfortunately yes, no points.  I once beat the RCC winning puppy dog for Best Puppy, but no points.

Makes me wonder if I should even bother with a Junior Warrant!

Well done those of you that have gained your JW's!

I think you would be very hard pushed to get a JW in my breed nowadays, the entries are so low, and very few people seem to go to open shows full stop.

My girlie wouldn't have stood a chance anyway as she was such a gangly thing as a pup and always placed 2nd or 3rd!  She's now just 2 and starting to look mature, and the wins are now starting to come :-)

We have had four champion bitches made up this year (including mine) and mine will be the only Junior Warrant winner.

Most of those points have come from higher classes than puppy and junior and the Open points from Champ shows without CC's and the breed club Open show.

As you say there just aren't the numbers at Open shows, you would need to get BOB most times and most judges give BOB to an adult and give the puppy Best puppy so they can have representation in both adult and puppy groups.

As it is now we have got it we have so far got an extra 6 points with three more shows (one Open and two champ) to go before January 27th.

I think you pretty much need an exhibit that is going to win nearly every class it is entered in.

I have just worked it out Inka has been to 13 Champ shows with CC's, been entered in 34 breed classes and won 28 of them.

At Open shows or champ shows without CC's we have been to 10, only 7 with breed classes, 16 classes entered and 13 won.

Now if there had been points for every class won (as there used to be some 15 or more years ago) that would be 84 from champ shows and 13 from Open shows, 97 points, she actually has 31 (4 open and 27 champ).

They then changed the rules that the award had to be won between 12 and 18 months so as not to overshow puppies.  Under those rules we would have won 12 champ show classes (36 points) and 4 Open (4 points) giving us the JW with 40 points.

They then changed the rules back to 6 to 18 months with the new three per class rule, but 10 classes needed at Open level, under this rule I would not yet have the Junior Warrant lacking 6 Open show points (I am only planning one Open show in the time left and that is two classes one of which is Open), even though I have 27 points from champ shows and 4 from Opens.

This was the case with her grandmother I had 32 JW points, despite Foot and mouth causing shows to be cancelled (but just 6 from Open shows).  Inka's Mum got hers at 15 months but again mostly from Post Graduate wins.

They have rather moved the goal posts though.

I am in a breed with a fairly good entry at champshows. I would say average 100 for the general champshows but there are only a few JWs every year.  I think there is 1 dog and 2 bitches this year that I know of. The 2 bitches ( mine being one) just gained their JW in the last few weeks.  2 of these 3 have just won their first CC and the 3rd I have no doubt will be in the top cards soon.

I think our top bitch this year may have just missed it by a point or two due to open shows.

Hi, How do you know how many of your breed have got their JW this year? is it just that you know about everyone in your breed or can the information be found somewhere on KC site? It would be interesting to know.

I know most people and exhibits in my breed, but I know how many JW's Championships, stud book numbers are gained each year as it is the information in the KC breed records supplements.

Our national breed club reproduce all the BRS info in it's annual Journal, so registrations health tests transfers the lot.

Regarding the 'three dogs must be present' rule. Does that mean if I show my puppy bitch at an open show with another two dogs in the same class and she wins, she gets 1 point? Or does it have to be three dogs PLUS my dog in the class?
By Silver (**) [gb] Date 05.11.09 16:19 GMT
Three dogs including your dog :-) So yes, if she's in a class with two others whoever wins gets a point.

Ahh great thank you. Well 1 point down, 24 to go!
