We have had four champion bitches made up this year (including mine) and mine will be the only Junior Warrant winner.
Most of those points have come from higher classes than puppy and junior and the Open points from Champ shows without CC's and the breed club Open show.
As you say there just aren't the numbers at Open shows, you would need to get BOB most times and most judges give BOB to an adult and give the puppy Best puppy so they can have representation in both adult and puppy groups.
As it is now we have got it we have so far got an extra 6 points with three more shows (one Open and two champ) to go before January 27th.
I think you pretty much need an exhibit that is going to win nearly every class it is entered in.
I have just worked it out Inka has been to 13 Champ shows with CC's, been entered in 34 breed classes and won 28 of them.
At Open shows or champ shows without CC's we have been to 10, only 7 with breed classes, 16 classes entered and 13 won.
Now if there had been points for every class won (as there used to be some 15 or more years ago) that would be 84 from champ shows and 13 from Open shows, 97 points, she actually has 31 (4 open and 27 champ).
They then changed the rules that the award had to be won between 12 and 18 months so as not to overshow puppies. Under those rules we would have won 12 champ show classes (36 points) and 4 Open (4 points) giving us the JW with 40 points.
They then changed the rules back to 6 to 18 months with the new three per class rule, but 10 classes needed at Open level, under this rule I would not yet have the Junior Warrant lacking 6 Open show points (I am only planning one Open show in the time left and that is two classes one of which is Open), even though I have 27 points from champ shows and 4 from Opens.
This was the case with her grandmother I had 32 JW points, despite Foot and mouth causing shows to be cancelled (but just 6 from Open shows). Inka's Mum got hers at 15 months but again mostly from Post Graduate wins.
They have rather moved the goal posts though.
