When I take my two out for a last wee I usually stay out with them for as long as it takes. Tonight, one of them was sidetracked by hedgehog routes across the garden and the other was listening to the owls.  I decided to leave them a bit longer whilst I came back in to switch off the PC and do the lights. 

I was longer than expected and, having heard nothing, thought I'd better go back out to get them.  As I passed throught the utility room I realised they were both back inside and tucked up in bed, eyes closed

Made me realise quite how much l love my dogs - and isn't it great when training and routine pays off?  They know exactly what is required even when I'm not there to remind them!!  I feel a bit redundant now...

how sweet . It is lovely when dogs know a routine, like my 4 dogs, they know when i am laying the table for dinner, they all go out into the hall way and lay down out of the way . And at the moment my girl is in season, and my dog knows he not allowed to you know what! So when they pass each other for their turns in the garden, my male will sit and wait for her to pass, then will, on command go in the opposite direction! I love my dogs so much x

BLess them, it is great when they realise what it is we want them to do, except, when they do it without us promting it leaves us wondering what our role is??!!
Maybe you need to get a puppy to feel useful again

training and routine?? Surely they just wanted to go to bed? Mine do that everynight....with no training or routine

Mine are the same, we often ask where are the dogs? to find them all curled up and snoring.

Aah it's lovely when you realise how well behaved our own dogs are, at the moment im looking after a weimeraner and how shocked was i this morning to find her asleep on the dining table, my boy would never do that (he's probably too lazy to get up there)

Oh for sure, but as there've been a few threads lately about dogs howling and barking at night or refusing to settle I'm reminded to be grateful for their willingness to conform, even when the warm nights bring all sorts of temptations into the fields behind.  The fact it obviously now requires no additional input or effort from me to get them back inside is a bonus!

I like the good news once in a while but maybe I'm also feeling a touch soppy...

We're not really ready for one yet but I may need to borrow another dog until this slightly soppy feeling goes away!!

I can leave my bitch to go out but my boy will still be cheeky and try to 'extend' his visit lol

My boys never stop out long for their night time wee, they know they get a treat as soon as they are on their beds so usually when I come out of the bathroom they have let themselves in from the garden and are sitting on their beds with that expectant look on their face ..... its always a particular treat that they only get at night time, the looks I get if I run out and try to fob them off with something else !!!

I have to stand at the back door and try and trick the Border by saying "right night then Dougie, night night" and shutting the door as if I'm leaving him out there, then keep peeking out to see if he has taken me seriously and come to the back door for fear of having to stay out all night. Feel like I right plank doing it, god knows what the neighbours must think! Lol.

It's just great when you have to blackmail and bribe your dogs!

Still love 'em though!
