I know I live in an area where vets are very expensive, but have been phoning round to check prices.

My vet - to take blood for premate tests - £68.00 per test
Vet 2   - to take blood and send off to Idexx - £56.00 per test
Vet 3  - to take blood and send off to Idexx - £48.00 per test

What have others paid - do these sound reasonable.

In my area its  £25 , i suppose it depends on how many they do on a regular basis as the kits come in packs of 5 or 10. Thats for the premate test done inhouse.

Hi you need to phone idexx yourself and get the kits sent to you. everything is in there apart from the blood. take the kit to the vet and ask him to take a sample of blood and you send it off yourself, including a cheque for £24.50. My vets nurse takes the blood for me and it does not cost a penny. i dont put my vets details on the form as i dont see the need for that either as you want idexx to phone you the next day to give you the results and let you know when to mate. Hope this has helped.

The price of £68 is just for taking blood evidently.  I would supply the kit and send the sample off.  I will check with my vet as the price given was from the head practice so the vet there may have been confused.  With a bit of luck my own vet may not charge (she didn't charge for taking blood when I had the optigen test as she said it was good to see things being done properly), but they are pretty anti breeding so we will see.

Thanx for putting that info on Karen as i have just mated a bitch and wanted my vet to do the test but as there is not much call for it I was estimated £160 as I would have to pay for the full kit! If Id have known I prob would have gone ahead with your suggestion. I think I may have taken her too early.

Will deffo look into that for next time.
