Just got a call at work to say my OH had to take our 15 month old to the vet.

When he woke up his little manhood was out in all its glory and would not go away!  It has happened before when I've been at home and an icepack has helped but apparently this morning nothing worked and the wee fella was becoming very distressed.

So wrapped in a towel to hide his little secret he was taken into our vet who has had to slightly sedate him.
Our vet asked about castration but she is not pushy at all and knows we wouldn't do it 'just for the sake of it' but has said that as this 'morning' incident is happening more and more we should consider it.

My OH was in such a panic that she didn't get all the details but has said that the vet suggested a 'chip' which would help. I'm assuming that this is Suprelorin and wondered if anyone here has had any experience using this.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm sorry but I had to giggle.
This has also happened to me when my big lab was about 6 months old.  He got frisky with his toy panda.
I made my OH call the vet and ask what to do etc and the vet asked if we'd tried lubricating it???!!!  My reply is unprintable
This went on for about another year of incidents with me chasing him round the house with ice pack or pints of cold water to try and reduce the
swelling.  Try explaining that when someone comes to the door!
He went in for the THE op by the time he was 2.  Still tries to mount any bitch in season but panda's are now safe.

We giggled the first few times it happened, but the poor wee thing was so distressed this morning.

We tried lubricating it, an ice-pack, frozen peas.....even an irn-bru ice lolly but it wasn't going back in.

I'm sure he was blushing at his mummies fussing over his bits.

We've been thinking about the Suprelorin injection for a while now as he has taken to running after bitches when out on his walks. Funny enough he has never tried to hump anything at home so at least we shouldn't have any habits to correct and now he's had his injection he should stop chasing the ladies!

Got lots of info about Superlorin from one of the spaniel sites when one of our fields was on Tardak so am happy to get it done for him.

I've read that sugar can help as a emergency help treatment.  They use it more in reptiles though I think.

What sugar does is pull fluids out of tissue. This reduces the blood pressure and eliminates the erection. Some use a super saturated sugar solution some try dry sugar on the area.

Obviously you'd have to make sure the area was cleaned afterwards to avoid any infection.
