My girl whelped 11 pups almost 10 weeks ago. Yesterday we noticed blood stains on the newspaper we have down by the door, so checked everyone over and found our girl to still have some browny red discharge. It isnt heavy, as we thought she'd stopped a couple of weeks ago, but it has left some smears of blood. She shows NO signs of being ill and has been seen by the vet twice since the birth.

My girl whelped 8 weeks ago and still dribbles now and again. So long as it isn't smelly,my vet says it's normal and will clear up eventually. My male is very interested and I wondered if she was coming in season again?I'll be watching them like a hawk, just in case!

I have occasionally had this up to 12 weeks or so post whelping.  If no odour or malaise perfectly normal.

Thank you so much for the reassurance.. there is no odour and she definately shows no signs of illness, so I can rest assured :-) many thanks again x

That's not unusual. Your girl had quite a big litter so there are more placental sites to bleed from than a bitch with a smaller litter might have. One of ours went on for a good 10 weeks after having 14 puppies. Your bitch seems well in herself so I wouldn't be worrying.

How often is she in season?  When you think she will be around 4/5 months since her last one.
My dogs aren't my whole life, but my life wouldn't be whole without them. 05/01/08 11 stone 12 lbs

My bitch had 11 puppies 5 weeks ago and she is still loosing a little bit

The vet said as long as it doesnt smell or change to a black colour then its normal and can last weeks and weeks as she had a huge litter

I agree that size of litter is relevant.  The more pups, the longer they bleed, but I expect that she will start to clear up in a couple of weeks.  As long as you're monitoring her carefully I wouldn't worry.  If you're checking her, you would soon know if something was amiss.
The hurrier I go - the behinder I get!
