My sheltie Isla(16 months) is a terrible nibbler,  Over the summer she ruined several pairs of my shoes which I had stupidly left on the bedroom floor.  With that delicate little mouth she seems able to chew a small strap on a shoe in half in a very quiet manner, or a bra strap or knickers - drives me mad so I have to NEVER leave stuff lying about.

However I am today really cross with her.  I have just bought a nice new dog bed for her.  While I was in the kitchen today she was (as I thought) snoozing on it in the sitting room.  I nearly had a fit when I saw that instead of snoozng she had been busily "unpicking" a seam and yanking out most  of the stuffing which was all over the place.  I supose if I hadn't distrubed her she would have had it all out.

I have now sewn it up as tight as I can having replaced the stuffing.  Honestly the things we have to put up with  .........

Don't tell my new pup that her bed has stuffing in, or she'll be tearing it out before you can shout "DAISYYYYY..." ;-)

Maybe you could get her a kong or something else to chew on?! My pup is exactly the same though, she will nibble on anything - well actually GNAW is a more appropriate term!!!

You are right - gnaw is much more appropriate.

Actually my other beds are better,  their insides are not stuffing but a sort of pillow filled with foam rubber.  So dog would have to chew through the bed cover and pillow cover to get to the foam rubber.  I think it is the fluffy stuffing that they like though, like cotton wool, and this particular bed had GREEN stuffing!

Yes she loves the cotton wool like stuffing - all the dogs' soft toys now are just shapeless pieces of cloth!! Mind you, my Cavalier's 4 and she still likes to rip stuffing out of things!

Daisy loves chewing fabric though - and that is one thing that I can't stand, the noise of fabric being chewed makes me go all funny :-(

I am a recent convert to hammock beds (I think the dogs like them too) as my girl is a real chewer. Nice and soft and no filling.

Jeff do you have a link for hammock beds? I'm intrigued :-)

Hi,

I don't have any links but Google; Dog Store Direct-which is where I got a couple from.
There are a few other companies that do them depends on the price. I think the best are probably from the company that is at Crufts "The OriginalUK" but not entirely sure.

hth,

Jeff.

Oh no!!  A new type of dog bed for me to look at?   I have a terrible bed fetish

I have Tuffies all over the place with a few Orvis thrown in.  I can count 6 beds without thinking and I've only got 2 dogs :-)

Now I wonder if I can get Orvis to make me one of their gorgeous striped covers for a doggy hammock...

Mine always used to curl up really small, unless they were on my bed! :-)

I was congratulating myself that Inka wasn't a bedding chewer like Mum Lexi (first one I have ever had).

I bought a piece of new vet bed which had rather a stiff backing, and before I had a chance to wash it she chewed at it, now she is turning all my vet bedding (old, new rubber backed etc)  into doilies, and it isn't cheap!!!

After going through lots of beds we invested at Crufts last year in one of the hammock type beds from Original beds.

They are brilliant, and the owners of the company are very helpful and accommodating.

The first few of our covers were chewed but they are very sturdy and new / spare covers can be brought seperately. I dunno if they do it now but they also sell on ex display covers for a fraction of the price - nothing wrong with them they have just been on display.

The beds are obviously raised which I think is good for dogs that have joint issues etc and are so easy to wash. They also dismantle and come in a travel bag for taking away with you.

I really can't recommend them enough!

Same kind of thing as the hub loungers   http://www.hubint.co.uk/ best bed we've ever bought, with the chew strips on the edges the bed can't be chewed, we bought one over 15 years ago and it's only had one replacement cover.  Just hose it down and good as new again.

we have a tuffies bed and love it! Not for us of course, for the pooch. He has allergies so cant have the nice fluffy comfy beds :-( But he loves his tuffie. I want a hammock bed for him next! Hubby wont agree tho! :-)

I bought a bed cost me £10 for my Lab/Ret who had in the past chewed all the bean bag type-no beans-mainly stuffed with foam or white wadding.

Now this one she has not chewed do not know what is inside the bag-I only wash the covers-but it still looks intact and have had for several months.

Will ask at pet shop for make or where to get from.
