some time ago I asked about pressure washers & actually bought my first choice from Argos as it had different attachments, seemed pretty powerful & had an angled spray wand. I've grown increasingly frustrated with it as it cuts out after about 5 minutes use, as if I'm not squeezing the trigger hard enough. I've changed the fuse, plugged it into different outlets, with/without extension leads & still it stops. It's probably been used about 10 times in 5 months so shouldnt be worn out! Does this happen with other makes or is this a rubbish purchase (& should I be taking it back)?

Can you say what make you bought?? :-)

My OH swears by Karcher (rather than swears at!!) but whatever make you have it sounds as though it isn't performing to your expectations.  Have you googled reviews of your model?  You sometimes find complaints and comments in chat forums which may suggest yours is part of a bigger problem.

Either way you should probably take it back to say it isn't working as you hoped and at least get someone to check it isn't a fault.  May be sensible to phone a manufacturers helpline first though as I doubt you'll get a technical answer from Argos :-)  Good luck

** Incidentally I googled 'pressure washer cuts out' and got a range of answers - most of which looked quite helpful

My Dad's Karcher power washer always cuts out when in use, you need to switch it off for a few seconds then switch it back on, it's a right pain in the rear!

Yes, ours is a Karcher and it's really good, haven't had problems with it.

Another vote for Karcher, have it running for 3/4hours virtually continuous when we have emptied the pond (about once a year) brilliant for getting rid of all the gungy **** that grows on the sides.

Karcher here as well - no problems.

Are you sure its not the incoming water pressure that's the problem? I have a Karcher too and it sometimes appears to cut out if there is a twist in the hose into the pressure washer or if the water is spurting rather than running freely (eg with an air lock in hose).

The model is a Challenger Xtreme 2000W (get this) HEAVY DUTY sold by Argos.  I dont think theres a problem with the water pressure going through the hose. Have found the info leaflet so will get it all out again tomorrow for a final test before I take it back. Thanks for the suggestion to google, seems I'm not the only one with the problem. Also looked at the reviews, they are mixed, but I found that to be the case with a bit of kitchen equipment. I'd really like a hot water fuel driven pressure washer but need to have a lottery win first.
