Hello, last week my 15 month old Akita bitch was diagnosed with uveo dermatological syndrome.Seemingly this rare disease is on the increase in Akitas. It appears as though the dog has conjunctivitious. It needs to be diagnosed quickly.Kumos wasnt,so the damage has already been done. She is now blind as the dogs own immune system attacks the pigmentation and the retinas in the detach. It doesnt stop there as its incurable, the eyes bulge and it is very painful.Shes on a high dose of steroids at the moment, 14 tablets a day which have made her immune system come right down so I cant take her out as she is suseptible to any disease. She goes back to the vet on Tuesday when the tablets run out and I havent yet decided what to do then.If anybodys dog has had this disease would you please let me know as iam trying to gather all the information that I can.I have found a very kind lady whos dog suffered the same so im in contact with her.Ive also found a lot of info on the net.So to any Akita owners out there please be aware of this.Im providing a blood sample off Kumo to be sent to Newmarket as there is a man down there doing some research. Its probably to late for her but it may help some dogs in the future.
Andrea.
