My eldest rottie girl aged 7 has been lame for a few weeks, it came on very sudden and very extreme, non-weight bearing for first 2 days, my vet just advised rest and rimadyl in the hope she has sprained/torn something. Well after 2 weeks of rimadyl she is still lame, and now her elbow is a little swollen. She is really bright and happy in herself, eating and drinking well and wanting to play but can not use her front right leg normally at all.
She is going in for x-rays on thursday as i am worried sick due to her age and breed and the sudden onset that she could have bone-cancer

She is my baby and hates the vets so i am worried about the sedation first off and then terrifed of the results, i am taking my mum with me as if the results are my worst fears i will be devastated.
Please god let it be something that can be sorted, i love her so much

Good luck at the Vets Mandy. My 12 year old Weimaraner bitch Remi, had bone cancer 4 years ago so I know how worried you must be. Hopefully it won't be anything too sinister

Bella doesnt have cancer

However the news is still not great as she had a plate in that leg 6 years ago for a fracture, there is signs of bone infection and one loose screw in the plate, she is on strong AB's for 3 weeks and if no improvement removal of the plate (if poss after all these years), my vet did say that at the moment he cant say hows things will go we will just have to see what happens so still very worrying but sooooooo glad she doesnt have bone cancer, he let me hold her for the xray too so we didnt have to sedate her.
Thanks again everyone for your support x

Phew Mandy thats good news! You must be so relieved.
A friend of mines Rottie/Boxer x had a plate in his front leg after a road accident when he was 6 months old. The plate stayed in place without any problems until about 6 months ago, 3 years after the accident. He also started limping so they xrayed it and found that it had moved, so they operated to remove it, and the plate just fell out by itself apparently. Once he had recovered from the surgery, he is great again now and no more limping. There was infection too under the plate so it was probably just as well that it was taken out.

I'm so glad that all those positive vibes worked!!

I know she has a way to go, but you must be so relieved! I am sure that you can cope with the alternative anyway.

Pleased for you, really pleased.

Great News for Bella and you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bella is scheduled for surgery tommorrow now as her lameness has become suddenly worse over the weekend, went and spoke to my vet to day and we are taking out the plate tommorrow. He did say however that while taking the plate out if the bone in her leg is soft that there is still a chance it could be cancer so if it is soft he is going to send a bone sample away.
I am staying with Bella the whole time tommorrow and will be with my vet throughout the whole operation so it will be a scary time, at least this way bella isnt without me at any time and i will be there when she wakes up.
Please god let her bone be solid when he gets in there and then i hope that the plate removal isnt complicated.
The other thing he did talk about was that if it is not cancer but there is severe infection and we can not get it under control then the only option left is amputation

Not sure how i feel about that but hope it doesnt come to decision like that. My poor girl is really going through the wars, i am terrified about tommorrow but i know we have to take the next step as she is not getting any better.

Best of luck for the opperation tomorrow and I hope that things are straigt-forward.
Years ago I had a cat that got caught by 2 dogs. She escaped with her life, but not before her rear leg was smashed to pieces. She needed pins in it which made her leg like new for many, many years then suddenly, one day she went lame. The lamesness seemed to come & go for a week or 2 then suddenly got worse and to our horror we could feel something poking up under her skin by her hip bone - it was the pin in her leg. It had, for some reason, worked it's way loose after years of no problems. There was nothing wrong with her bones atall, the pin just came loose, once it was removed she was back to normal.
I hope that it's a simple as this for your girl.
Fingers, toes, and all the pets paws crossed for you.

Thank you all again.
Bella had her surgery this morning, i have just left her there to wake up a little more before i go back and get her, orthopedics are so brutal and seem even more so when you are watching it on your own dog.
She doesnt have cancer, bone was nice and solid.
There was 6 screws in the plate and 4 of them had completely snapped off! My vet is sure this was causing all the pain and is hopeful that now all the screws and plate is out she should hopefully settle back down in a few weeks. She will be so sore when she wakes up as bone had grown all around the plate and he had to crack all that off. Hopefully after the pain of the op has gone she will be as good as new, my poor baby girl.
Thanks everyone again for all your kind wishes x

I bet you feel like a wet rag! All limp with relief! Thank goodness it wasn't your worst nightmare.
I know she will be feeling rough, and it's going to be a while, but I am so, so glad for you. I am really smiling!

Thank you both.
I feel shattered, emotional stuff drains you so much more than physical, yes i am sooooo relieved and she is really bright tonight, eaten well and we even have a happy waggy stumpy
