My 9yr old Greyhound has had problems swallowing some of his food. For a few months I had noticed a gargling/burping noise from his throat mentioned it to the vet and was tld to keep an eye on him. Now sometimes when he eats you can see he food stuck in his throat a bulge appears and you can see him swallowing to dislodge it. his happens most times though not every single time. His bowl is raised and he has dry (AG) soaked and meat (canned or tuna etc.,) mixed in.  He has had an xray of his throat and chest and nothing abnormal was detected. Also he never regurgitates his food which I have read is the main symptom of megaoesophagus.  Has anyone had similair experience wth this? Worried that we are missing something. He has a underlying auto immune problem which every so often he will lose a claw, he is treated for this. He has also had bloods taken and his thyroid cheked all which were normal.

I have an 8 year old that has been getting worse while eating. Regurgitating, gulping, dribbling a lot ,Vets gave antibiotics and prednisalone but not much advice on management.
I found a yahoo megaesophagus group that has a lot of suggestions for help. Liquidising the food has helped my girl, I grind the kibble and mix it to a smooth porridge, then smear it on a flat dish so she has to lick it slowly. A stomach acid suppressant can help too , like prosilec or zantac. Most of the group are in the USA so medications are a bit different its a bit of trial and error, some dogs fare better with soft balls of food  but you just see whats best for your dog.Hope you get to the bottom of your lads problem or at least find a way to manage it. Good luck
