Hi I have a little french bulldog pup, she is now 5 months, the thing is she still has her baby canine teeth in aswell as her adult canine teeth, should i have them removed by the vet or leave them to work out by themselves, obviously with her breed, i am not wanting her to go under aneasetic (sp) if its not necessary.
your advice would be really welcome.

If they're not out by 6 months I'd want them removed before they distort the adult teeth. It would be sensible to find a vet who specialises in brachycephalic breeds with their particular anaesthetic needs.

I have never yet met a frenchie with perfect teeth, but I'm sure there must be quite a few, lol. My Louis had teeth that were 'like a bag of chips thrown together' as my girls used to say. My Pierre is 5 months also and lost his canines and others ( which I managed to save after he'd had a little chew on them! ) I haven't a clue what his mouth will look like! You have to remember that with their extremely shortened muzzle, there is not much space for the teeth to be nicely and evenly spaced.

I would probably be disinclined to have an aneasthetic for tooth removal unless it was causing a health issue, aneasthesia being so tricky in french bulldogs! Like Jeangenie says, you really do need a surgeon who has done ops on many brachycephalic breeds. If your own vet hasn't operated on these types of breeds, then ask for a referral .

I always go with what my vet recommends, and he's never been wrong yet.  He does a free 6 month puppy health check, and he knows that I don't want baby teeth spoiling the permanent teeth. 

Sometimes he'll tell me to leave it a while longer, if the permanent teeth are sitting right.  He is really good with the short faced breeds, and I have never had a problem with dental work that he's done for me. 

Thanks all for the advice, i might just book her in to see what the vets say, it could be that i leave them for another couple of weeks they will work loose.
