Hi Guys, just have a should I should I not moment, bitch is today at day 63 since first tie (this is 63 days from not including the tie - would you count that day as day one?) however as an eager owner I was considering taking her for a check at the vets but in my head I have the overdramatic owner vision of me whisking her down there when she is perfectly fine!!! She had two matings, first as I said 13th August and the next on 15th August.

She has not gone off her food but has spent two days on the sofa. She popped off the sofa last night and laid down behind the sofa (something she has never done) then back to the sofa just after.  Today I found her hiding under my bed for a few minutes. so, in my head I am thinking this is ok do not panic but my heart is saying take her for a check up, fee not a worry just do not want the vet to think of me as an overprotective owner.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOO the million dollar question is at what point would YOU take your bitch to the vets beyond the due date???

Thanks guys and oh you will note me other post on temperatures, hers is constantly 36.7 - 37.4 but we did drop to 36.1 yesterday evening but not prolonged!

Regards all

Personally my heart would say don't take her to the vet as you're only going to stress her needlessly when she most needs peace and quiet and it sounds like she is doing absolutely fine. :-) After all you could be just on day 61 yet.

Thanks Marianne, just sneaked a peek at her investigating the smallest of places behind the sofa when she has a perfectly fine whelping box with half cover, fleece bed etc etc i.e. splendor, ready! Perhaps things will get moving along tonight!
By Justine (**) [gb] Date 15.10.09 16:53 GMT
Aww good luck taggabags :-)  Hopefully you won't have too long to wait ;-)  I'll be the same in a few weeks cos my bitch is due to have her litter on 3 November.

Good luck Justine, word of advice, do not move onto the camp bed too early, been there for nearly a week LOL
By Justine (**) [gb] Date 15.10.09 17:17 GMT
haha I think she will have to come to bed with me rather than the other way round ;-)

Another uneventful night, however this morning she is different, seeking comfort behind the sofa and searching the house for alternatives other than the state of the art whelping box!  She has eaten and since last night 9 oclock had three poos!  She is really clingy and pining for me to stroke her and her belly whilst ever dissapearing from the wide as a bus look is now very firm and tight so I am hopeful for news today either day 64 or 62!!

Keep you posted

sounds like things are on the move :-)
By taggabags (**) [gb] Date 16.10.09 10:51 GMT
Oh how I hope they are, this last week has been the lonnnnnnnnnnnngest!  She is sleeping on her back, there is a definate increase in volume of discharge build up back end and it seems more straw coloured than the usual white so hopeing this is the start of dilating, she has not drunk much and is yet to have a wee since early hours this am but not too worried.  She is shaking a very small bit at times, I expect this is due to the internal contractions?  Just out in the garden she was heading under every bush!  Now back on the couch and sleeping ..........the wait continues.
By lillymum (**) [gb] Date 16.10.09 13:44 GMT
if she goes in the garden follow her just in case she drops a pup.  good luck hope to hear news of little feet later ;-)

Think we are on the way, she is now sleeping whilst heavy breathing in her whelping box and we have had two short bursts of raking up her bedding and gripping the blanket with her teeth!  Hopefully stage two will not be as long as stage one appears to have been?

I love it when the puppies are being born. Will keep checking in. Hope all goes well x

Gripping the blanket with her teeth sounds like pain is getting stronger.

Looks like you are soon to be looking like a zombie!  ;-)  :-)  :-)

LOL Jean I arleady do! Things a bit quieter as I type, she laying out having a sleep but breather faster than normal, No plug or stringy mucous yet on mass, thought this may have come by now. She had a sligth discharge for some time so maybe she is a little and oftern shedder of her plug rather than one big swoop!

Thanks Ann, just hope she does not keep us all waiting LOL

7.30 update, she is in and out of the whelping box, started with the occaisional pant about an hour ago and constant shaking with the pain I presume.  She keeps trying to get some sleep but the pain is obviously waking her, should not be too long, have informed vet of impending (hopefully) delivery

First Dog puppy born 2140 (2040 Champdog time as seems to be an hour behind?) then another 30 mins later and another 5 mins after that!  Two bitches one dog at moment, all afterbirths out but I had to assist witht he last one as the puppy came out so fast, not sure if any more just waiting!
By JeanSW (****) [gb] Date 16.10.09 22:30 GMT
Sounds as if things are doing just fine.  Congratulations!   :-)

You won't be able to sleep now!  I always find the adrenaline really high after the stress of waiting.  Think it's because I'm so relieved!

Glad things went well for you.

CD time depends on what time you have set as your options. :-) The time that your computer shows will be right next Sunday when the clocks have gone back to GMT.

Thanks all, just to update we had a total of Five puppies, 1 boy and 4 girls born by 2340.  Two feet first, one true breech the other two normal.  One got stuck so had to hook feet and assist, all doing well!  Phew!  I allowed her to only conume about 1 and a half afterbirths as she was sick!!! She had drunk loads, is content and pups appear to be well.

Thanks guys
