I have been doing my weekly shop at Sainsburys for a long while BUT they are having a major refurbishment/modernisation blitz, its been chaos for the last 2/3 months as they keep moving whole sections round and you go to the sweets and find wines + spirits and the homeware is now bread and cakes.
They have shut Completely for a week and I still haven't decided whether to go to Asda or Tesco instead or travel further and go to a smaller sainsbury somewhere else. Or shall I just forget it and live off tins/freezer for a week and survive without any fresh stuff.

I'm sure you'd be able to live for a week on what you have in your cupboards   - maybe just need bread / milk etc which you could get locally. Infact, it sounds like a good idea to do that so you can make a bit of space and use some of the things that make their way to the back of the cupboards or bottom of the freezer
It does annoy me when supermarkets move things - i fully understand why they do it but i like to get in, do my shopping and get out with as less faff as possible. Hunting down the items i need drives me to insanity - i get so stressed out with it i now have to go shopping alone or i am guarnateed to fall out with whoever i am in the supermarket with!!!

Take the opportunity to switch to ASDA permanently -MUCH cheaper.

Asda may be cheaper, but cheapness isn't necessarily top priority for everyone Some cheap food is horrible We do some of our shopping at Lidl, but still prefer Sainsbury's for most of our shop Can be quite good value - their own brand is very good Buying special offers and reduced food can also keep the cost down particularly if you're not fussy what you eat

Some expensive food is horrible too Paying more doesnt necessarily mean it is going to be good. Lidl always win hands down in the chocolate department - cant be beaten Lidl & Aldi are also very good at getting italian hams and cheeses and a fraction of the price you pay in supermarkets. Asda are great as a general supermarket and do some great BOGOF or B1G13 offers.

I'd go to Tesco - permanently!    But then I'm not a Sainsburys fan.

That said, we go to Asda cos it's five minutes down the road, but I hate it, it's a horrible store.  They do have much nicer stores in other places though and I've always found it to be much cheaper (I'm meaning for branded things, not own brand stuff).

I reckon they're all much of a muchness    It depends on what you're looking for and your location to the most convenient store.

I pass a Tesco superstore everyday on my way home from work, subsequently I use that store quite frequently. If I can drag OH out at the weekend we may visit a giant Asda that could fit my Tesco superstore in a corner, if I'm going to a nearby pet store I'll pop into Sainsbugs.

Whatever I'm doing the weekly shop has to fit around it.  I HATE SHOPPING

No amount of retail fancy blarny sales gumbo will entice me to buy.

So when either of these big stores has a re-fit or moves stock it's lost on me, I barely notice it, I'm not loyal to any of them, they serve a purpose, I suppose that because I haven't got used to any particular store lay out that I don't notice the change when they do one.

Sometimes it's a good idea to miss a weeks shop and go through what's left in the cupboards, it's amazing what goodies you can find and what you can do with them.

I miss a week every so often so that I can empty the freezers and defrost them, then I'll have a major cook up weekend and freeze the end results in freezers that I can see the bottom of. The dogs do well out of it too  

try using proper local shops with real people running them, where meat tastes like meat from a butchers and the veg is grown as locally as possible. I dont do supermarkets!!!

Heaven if you can and my ideal, but hard to manage if you work full time and live in an area where local shops have died a death, no doubt due to not being used

Why not use home shopping ? I do it all the time and find I actually save money  because I can think about what I really want not so much room to impulse buy. If you choose the right days you can have free delivery over £100.00 or £3.50 if less

That really annoys me when they move stuff. All part of a master plan to make you buy more LOL. I use Tesco. We have one of the ones where they have two floors and you can relieve the boredom of the food shop by going upstairs and mooching through the clothes, handbags etc.

I would live out of my freezer for a week. I recently defrosted mine and the stuff I had in the bottom that I had forgotton about could have fed a family for a week. So we are using it up and having a cheap week with the shopping.
