I'm sure this topic comes up quite frequently. I've just bought a puppy, she's nine weeks old, and I need to insure her but my brain has gone into overdrive just looking at all the different sites.  Any recommendations?

PetPlan. Not the cheapest, but one of the companies that are best at paying out. Whichever company you choose, make sure you get lifetime cover per condition.

Althou MoreThan are good they do hike premiums quite high once pet reaches 6 plus.
Also now have a new excess £70 plus 10% of the rest of the claim amount upto the dog reaching 6yo.
£70 plus 20% of the rest of the claim after your dog is 6yo.

im with NFU, they paid out with no quibble for my dogs bloat just two weeks after I had taken out the policy !

I am still having post forwarded out here to Oz, and recently received a renewal letter from MoreThan about insurance for both my Staffords (despite telling them I was leaving the country!).
Tess is just over 7 years old now, and there were two choices of insurance for her, one covered illness for one year, the other covered the lifetime of the illness (which was what I previously had).
I used to pay £13 per month for Tess, they are now quoting £34!  Eek!
Needless to say that particular letter was recycled of course.
I'm expecting Alfie's letter any day!

I found tescos great last year, they paid out no problems, but like others haver said do your research and check the small print.

Yes, I'm also with Tesco's and made a small claim last year and the service was excellent. 

Yes sadly this years MoreThan (pethealthcare services) premium for one of mine hiked 31.5%!!
It's now 1p short of £105 per month....yes that's PER month.


As my girl's had cancer this year I can't afford to gamble and say enough's enough...
But it's a shocker of a price rise...

Top level 'for life' cover with AXA actually WENT DOWN this year AFTER £1500 claims last year.
1st year it was £164 for the year, renewal this year was £155. GSD now aged 2yrs 3mths.
Vet likes them and is happy to get paid direct.

Someone told me direct line are good anyone else used them?

I used direct line about 4 years ago, they always paid out ok, including for stuff like hydrotherapy, their premiums were ok too, I cant remember what the excess was though.

Thanks all for your input, I've had my oh on the phone all day (whilst I ministered to the needs of one puppy/tiger) and we should be recieving some bumph in the mail over the next few days. He seems to  feel that the NFU might be a good bet. They did mention eye tests, I don't know anything on that subject so as this is for general information it would probably be an idea to post in the health section. Thanks again all. 

My crowd are insured through a brokerage that deals specifically in pet insurance - VIP.  http://www.vip4u.co.uk.  Only had one claim but they dealt with it rather than me having to contact the insurance company, and it was all done very efficiently and quickly.  They're very friendly and worth giving them a call.
