Hi Guys,

My 18 month old Boxer was attacked by another dog about five days ago and as a result he received three little bites on his front leg. They cleaned up nicely and don't appear to be infected or anything. The only problem is he won't leave them alone to heal. He'll leave them for a while and the wounds start to scab over then he'll start licking them again.

Is there anything I can put on them to make him leave them alone. I had though of TCP as it smells so awful but don't want to harm him in any way so though better of it.

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks
Rosie

I don't know about putting something on to stop him licking but you can get a collar which might help.  Most vets have the upturned bucket types or there are some different types available.  Someone on here may be able to send you a link to one they've used.

There's a new anti lick product just out, I have to say I have NOT tried it, but I received a free sample and I'm interested and will definitely try it whenever I have cause to. http://www.nurturedpets.co.uk/

thanks for the replies. I had a look on the website and might give the plaster thing a go. Am going to PAH this afternoon for some treats anyway, so will ask if they have any ideas!

To be honest I would take any advice from PAH staff with a  pinch of salt, better to ask the Vet.

> There's a new anti lick product just out,

Thanks for that link Marianne.  It does look worth a try doesn't it?

Had a look and I think I might order some for "just in case" - if it works it will be great.

PAH were particularly useless as usual! I will order the sticky plaster thing I think, although, he seems to have left it alone the last 24 hrs. Will get them anyway just in case they are required in the future

Thanks guys

Just thought I'd share something that worked in relation to licking wounds.

I tried the plaster thing and Nero kept nibbling it and was very upset with me that I'd put this annoying thing on his leg!

A friend of mine then gave me something called Itchstick made by Petkin. I did see this at PAH but dismissed it.

It worked!

It's like a deodrant stick so really easy to rub all over his leg. Nero immediately went to sniff and lick whatever I'd smeared on him and straight away he turned his nose up and left it alone, obviously giving me a most disgruntled look at the same time.

A few days later the wounds scabbed up. Now he is all better with a couple of little scars.
