Sorry for the ignorance.  I sometimes feed tripe to my dogs & noticed that my usual suppliers are offering Ox tripe now & it's a lot cheaper.  Is there a reason for this, is it poorer quality & how would it effect the dogs' stomachs.

OX and Bef refering to meat byproducts like liver are interchangeable.  Ox/Beef tripe is better than that of Lamb/sheep/Mutton.

Thanks, so feeding ox tripe is acceptable.  Normally I use minced beef tripe.

Ox tripe is just another name for Beef tripe, like Ox Liver instead of Beef Liver, though have never seen Beef-Tail ;-) just Ox-tail..

I buy in bulk and get the ox tripe at cost price and its cheaper than normal tripe. My boys love it, but boy is it very very stinky!!

Sue - do you buy fresh or frozen? I'm looking for the best way to buy and store tripe as I'm considering moving onto a raw diet.

I buy it in frozen blocks from Berriewoods along with other raw frozen foods. Each block is easy to defrost, or cook what ever you decide, but smells worse when cooked.. Yuck..

Cooking Green tripe rather negates the benefits of feeding it.

a neighbour when I was a child, used to feed her dog cooked tripe and the whole street could smell it... yuk. Think raw is fine for my dogs lol x

I feed mine green tripe and the loose in the bag.  I cook mine (to everyone's disgust lol).  I usually cook an onion in the micro after to get rid of the smell, sometimes a lemon if i have one in.  I'm afraid to feed raw unless it fruit or veg.  I do keep all the juices so any nutrients are hopefully retained.  Maybe someone can help explain what gets missed.  will look out for ox tripe.

The beneficial digestive enzymes contained in the tripe (it is part of the digestive tract of a ruminant) as well as the vitamins in the green stuff will all be killed by cooking, all you are then are left with is the cooked protein and fat.

There is no need to be afraid :-) I have to say, we were quite dubious about feeding raw to begin with. We always thought 'why change their food when they look perfectly healthy as they are'. We then bought in a new puppy and all the pups from that litter were weaned on to raw (infact, our puppy was the fourth generation of raw fed dogs from that breeder). And I can quite honestly say I can't think of one adverse affect to raw feeding. We have found it cheaper, the dogs prefer it, they have brilliant shiny coats, wonderful bone substance, lovely white teeth that never need cleaning thanks to the bones we feed...I could go on and on! We never had a problem switching them over, no upset stomachs - we have even seen a noticeable reduction in the amount of dog poo! They started to spit out the complete food we were mixing it with, so we don't even feed that any more.

...But wait, there is one slight problem we have found with raw feeding, the dogs love it so much they DEMAND all there meals :-) You can't even say 'chicken wings' in our house any more without having 5 dogs running to the kitchen! lol

I like the idea of them wanting all thier meals, lol.
