As the title asks any breeders out there with this experience?

Friend sent her bitch to fellow breeders for mating etc, returned a few wks later mated as promised.  Trouble is the resulting pups are hairless, I've never heard of such a thing but the stud dog owner claims they can be born hairless.

I've heard of premature puppies being born with no fur...

Will they grow hair or is she concerned that the sire maybe a hairless? If she wasn't present at he actual mating. No idea whether hairless gene in dominant though sorry so I don't know of this can be possible even. But I have read that premys can be born hairless especially with the smaller breeds.

There is some fur on the head, tail and bits on legs but not body and whelped on due date.

Does the breeder also keep chinese cresteds?

oh hope not, but does sound like a chinese crested!!! Although even they dont always have a full litter of hairless and can produce powderpuff. 
Will be interesting to hear the outcome.

Oh gosh... Imagine if the wrong dog has got to her. Could be possible if your friend wasn't there to supervise.

There were only 2 puppies apparently both with this tufty hair on them 1 died, it was huge and died before it was born vet said made it easier for him to remove without going to a c section.

Stud dog owner swears Jap Chin's can be born like this but I'm not convinced especially inlight of this being a new breed for friend ie first litter.  I too am leaning towards chinese crested, contact is possible, now its been mentioned don't know why I'd not made the connection except maybe stud dog owner being adamant they can be born this way.

I have advised her to go for DNA profiling as in parentage version, can they tell without the Studs input if its a different breed?  Friend wasn't there to supervise as the bitch went to stay for the duration of her season and was gone 4 wks so well past and that photo is one ugly dog here's hoping its just an anomaly, either way the live pup will go as a pet.

Umm sounds very strange and as someone said would only be hairless if very premature!  If they have got Chinese Crested's as well then I'm sorry but that's what has happened and maybe they've spun the same yarn to other people also!

I know of a breeder who keeps both breeds, probably not the only one.

Hairlessness at birth isn't listed as a known breed condition in TBOB, and it lists quite a few for other breeds. I think this is a definite case for DNA testing.
