I'm going to the vets tomorrow but just wanted to ask here for any info/advice too.

A few months back I noticed a small hard lump on Oscar's back, towards his rump, about the size of a small pea. It didn't seem to bother him much but he did sometimes swing his head round to just look at it which I thought was odd. He also sniffed it sometimes but never tried to scratch, itch or lick it. He's had a cancerous lump (a fibrosarcoma) removed from his rump before (about 2 years ago, I think) so I took him straight to the vet. The vet said he thought it was just a wart but that we would keep an eye on it in light of his history.

Anyway, I've been checking it regularly, but trying not to prod too often as I didn't want to make it sore or make any growth less noticeable. I've just had a good look at it today and it has definitely grown and changed. It is now about the size of a chickpea, is darker around the edges, has no hair growing on it, a few red 'nodules' on it, and looks a little pink and sore on the top (possibly where he's knocked it?). It still seems to be just in the skin and not attached to his body. Obviously I know it's hard to say much when you can't see it but I just wondered if anyone has had experience of something similar.

I'll let you know what the vet says tomorrow.

Thank you in advance :-)

I think you are doing the right thing too by going back to the Vet.  Maybe your Vet could do fine needle aspiration if he isn't sure what the lump is before he thinks about removing it?

Hope you get on ok though.

I had something similar on my eldest Bearded Collie several years ago.  When it started to grow, I got worried, and had it removed.

The vet said it could come back, but so far no sign of it.  She was 11 last week, so I hope that you are as lucky!  :-)

Thank you Justine and Jean :-)
I suppose there is no point in trying to second guess it. I'll let you know what the vet says later.
Jean, I'm glad your BC made such a good recovery :-)

They aren't concerned by it at all and are happy that it isn't changing into anything sinister. They will remove it next time he has an anaesthetic. I feel a little uneasy about it still, but will just keep an eye on it and see what happens.
Thanks for your help :-)

Thanks for letting us know the outcome.

If they don't think it's anything sinister, try and relax!  If they suspected anything, you wouldn't have been bringing him home!

Pleased for you.  :-)
