My GR (age 2) had a lump in his neck which last week he had biopsied. After the biopsy it all became inflamed and nasty. They think he has an absess but the needles have infected the site.
He went to the vets friday and they gave antibiotics and pain killers and hibiscrub. He was poorly all weekend but last night seemed to turn a corner and was more himself.

We took him back to the vets today, they have taken a swab and want to see him Wednesday - we still have no biopsy results and due to the postal strike she has no idea when the swab results will be back !!. I am not happy, this eczema is getting bigger and bigger, he is absolutly beside himself and we dont know what to do to help him. I would estimate the lump was golf ball size and the infection is now bigger than an adult hand, they just keep shaving the hair. They have put a bandage on his back foot to stop him scratching (which it doesn't) and said to put a t - shirt on - but dont touch the skin - how do you manage that then??????????????

Given that the antibiotics are clearly not helping (this thing has more than doubled in size since Friday) should they be doing more. I came out of there with no more answers than I went in with (my husband told me not to get upset before we went in). What would you do?

I personally would want a second opinion, and quickly, the postal strike shouldn't really affect them getting the results as emails and telephones can be used for this.  You need to be sure they are treating your boy with the correct antibiotics, if these are not working then they may not be the correct ones for this particular infection and some infections spread rapidly.

Just out of interest, has he recently had a booster?

Insist on a referral from your vet and I'd do it today!

Let us know how you get on.

When our old newf used to get wet eczema as well as antibiotics we used to have to wash the area with hibiscrub (think it was that anyway) and then make sure the area was dried properly using a hair dryer.  It always seemed to work.
